#LittleLoves – July 2024

Welcome to this month’s #LittleLoves post, which is part of a series that you are very welcome to join should you fancy sharing some of the positive points from your month.

July has been quite the transformative month in this household as E completed her time at Primary School, J saw the end of year ten and I started my new role working from home. It’s been ‘all change’ and we are currently trying to navigate all those alterations as the summer holidays have landed which as you can imagine is interesting… Without any further waffle here are a few of my #LittleLoves from the past month.

Read

Ever since I tarted up my ancient brick of a Kindle Paperwhite I’ve been racing through books like there’s no tomorrow. This month I’ve tried to curb my reading a little but have still managed to get through two books written by Ana Huang – The King of Pride and the King of Greed. I’ve also found myself falling down the rabbit hole that is ‘BookTok’ and Reddit thus have plenty of romance recommendations ready to add to my ‘TBR’ (to be read) list for when I finish this current series.

Watched

In preparation for the latest Deadpool and Wolverine movie Paul and I rewatched the first two films. We’ve also been to the cinema with the kids to see Disney’s ‘Inside Out 2‘ and we’ve recently been enjoying a few cheesy films on Netflix and Prime including ‘The Proposal‘, ‘The Barbie Movie‘, Ticket to Paradise‘, and ‘The Lost City‘.

Heard

Since watching Glastonbury last month I’ve found myself listening to various Coldplay tracks, including their latest remix of ‘Something Like This’ with Martin Garrix. There’s nothing quite like an awesome track being mixed into an amazing bassline, especially so when it’s a track like Breakaway.

Made

With E finishing her final week at primary school it was certainly a busy time in my kitchen as both Paul and I whipped up various treats for the leaver’s disco. We put together boxes of Mars bar cakes, brownies, cheese straws, and sausage rolls, and we even created a rather funky cheese, pickle, pineapple, and sausage on-sticks hedgehog which didn’t last long at all.

Wore

I’d love to say that I’ve been wearing an entirely new wardrobe as I’ve somehow magically lost two stone but sadly that isn’t the case. As usual, I’ve spent most days in my leggings, jeggings, or now and then (on the rare occasion when the sun’s been shining), my denim shorts. I had started the summer sporting my beautiful platform Crocs but soon learnt that due to the lack of ankle support, they cause severe sciatica and worse, plantar fasciitis – a condition my poor Dad once struggled with. I’ve therefore switched back to my cushioned Skechers and in future will be sticking to firmly cushioned shoe options.

I have at least been wearing one new item and that’s my headset which I’ve finally connected to my Macbook so I can attend various meetings in the mornings without waking the kids.

And Lastly

It’s been one heck of a hectic month; from end-of-year presentations, school trips, beach BBQs, and leavers discos to leaving parties and family get-togethers, it’s been an endless emotional rollercoaster but here we are… The summer holidays have at long last arrived and the kids can finally enjoy a hard-earned rest. I’m so very proud of both J and E – I can barely believe that come September J will be in his final year at secondary school whilst E will be donning her ‘shirts and ties’ as she joins J at senior school.

Though I’d love to go abroad for a holiday this year, I’m currently a tad preoccupied with finding my feet in my new role thus we’ve planned some local-ish days out for the weekends ahead. Here’s hoping it’s a smooth six weeks.

I saw the new Deadppol yesterday – I thought it was hilarious. I knew nothing about it (other than seeing the other 2) so all the jokes had full impact on me. Don’t watch or read anything until after so you don’t get spoilers. Me and a group of mid to late 30 year old men seemed to enjoy it the most. I’m surprised the critics trashed it. Anyway, I went in thinking it would be a stinker (from the poster and just being the 3rd in a franchise) and thought it was so funny (but very rude and irreverant) Enjoy it!
Hope you are enjoying the learning curve and the shiny new job feels!
