Welcome to June’s edition of #LittleLoves post. #LittleLoves is a monthly series celebrating the positive points in life. You are very welcome to tag along and to add comments or even post your own #LittleLoves posts and then link up using the information below.
June has been especially hard work in this household as we’ve not stopped for a second; J had four weeks of endless examinations, E has been busy prepping and practising for her upcoming flute assessments and orchestra performance, whilst Paul and I have been running ourselves ragged working day-in and day-out trying to make ends meet. It’s been exhausting both physically and emotionally, but we’ve made it through and are now counting down to a much-deserved break. Without any further waffle, here’s some of my #LittleLoves from the past month.
Read
There’s been no time to sit back with a book or to enjoy relaxing by reading. I have, however, read endless CGP textbooks, past examination papers, and volumes of notes whilst helping J to revise for his GCSE exams. Thankfully, the exams are all over the revision resources have been passed onto others who may use them in the future.
Watched
With this month being so stressful, we’ve made a point to sit together as a family for at least an hour over the weekend to ‘switch off’ by switching on the television. We completed watching the latest series of Clarkson’s Farm, and we’ve also enjoyed watching an amazing animation titled ‘Flow‘. No words were required; the images and music were simply stunning, and the storyline was inspirational. Paul and I have also enjoyed watching the latest series of ‘Task Master‘ and have found ourselves winding down in an evening to some of the latest highlights from Glastonbury.
Heard
Having dropped our son off at his prom all suited and booted for the evening, Paul and I drove to a nearby village to enjoy a meal together at a local pub. Having stuffed ourselves silly, we then took a stroll around what should have been a peaceful pond. However, the prom was obviously quite the party, as despite being a few miles down the road, we were able to enjoy each and every song that was played loud and clear! We had great fun busting some moves to various dance classics before heading up the road to find our son giving it his all on the dance floor.
It was such fun to see our sixteen-year-old strutting his stuff in his Marc Darcy suit. It was also a real pleasure to enjoy the music from a distance.
Made
Other than making it to the end of the GCSE exam season, I haven’t made an awful lot this month. I did, however, make a booking at a local restaurant that is well-known for its legendary steaks. Following the end of what felt like a lifetime of revision and exam stress, we took J, his sister, and his grandparents out for a much-deserved meal, and I’ve got to say, it was incredible!
Wore
With my weight slowly but surely declining, I’ve finally dropped a dress size or two and have been able to squeeze myself back into my beloved dungaree dresses. I’ve also received a couple of new dresses ready for our upcoming holiday, one of which has become a firm favourite and I’ve worn a few times over the past month.
My Top Three Moments From The Month Gone By
Whilst June has been overwhelmingly busy, it’s also been emotionally fraught as we’ve reached such massive milestones as a family. Here’s my top three moments from the past month:
- Collecting my son on his final day of secondary school brought about a plethora of feelings for us both. Seeing him standing smiling with his shirt covered in messages from his year group and a leavers jumper wrapped around his waist brought tears to my eyes.
- I’m well aware that my kids are growing up; they are both much taller than me these days. However, seeing my sixteen-year-old son suited and booted in a Mark Darcy suit was quite the shocker. J looked amazing, though he appeared almost ten years older than he actually is and with my Dad’s shades resting on his head to complete the look, I couldn’t help but notice the likeness between them both. It was a heart-wrenching moment as I’d have loved for my Dad to have seen him looking so smart. We are all so proud of him, and I was so pleased to see him let his hair down (literally) and party with his pals to celebrate the end of what has been a huge part of his life.
- My beautiful little lady (or not so little these days as she seems to be towering over me) has been busy practising for her Grade 1 Flute and alongside learning her pieces, she’s also been practising for her upcoming orchestra performance. Listening to her play warms my heart. She’s so talented in the arts – I cannot wait to see her perform.
Thanks for reading my #LittleLoves post. I look forward to catching up and reading through your #LittleLoves posts
