#LittleLoves – August 2025

Welcome to the August edition of #LittleLoves. #Little Loves is a blog series that shares the positive points from the month gone by. Feel free to join in.

August has been utterly jam-packed with positives in this household, so get ready for a bit of a lengthy read. That said, I’m currently struggling with some health complications, so I’d take the first three weeks of the month to this last one, that’s for sure! Still, sticking to the positives, here are a few of the positive points from the month gone by.

Read

#LittleLoves - August 2025

I somehow managed to get through four books this past month, completing the amazing Elsie Silver’s  ‘Gold Rush Ranch‘ series with ‘Out Of The Gate’, ‘A Photo Finish’, and ‘The Front Runner’. I then waded through Sarah J. Maas’s TikTok sensation, ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’, though I’m not sure why it received so much hype, as I found it a bit of a trudge to read and was rather relieved to reach the end. I doubt I’ll pick up any further books from the series, as fairy romance isn’t my vibe!

Watched

#LittleLoves - August 2025

Other than my usual soaps, I haven’t watched a huge amount of television of late as I’ve been too busy reading. My son and I have continued watching ‘Not Going Out‘ and we are currently on series six. My husband and I have also kept up with watching First Dates and have recently finished watching the latest and final series of Prime’s ‘Upload’.

Heard

Other than being regularly subjected to the rather popular ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ by my delightful daughter, I’ve not spent much time listening to Music this month. However, one song that did catch my attention, as it pulled at my heartstrings, was the recently re-released ‘Coming Around Again‘ by Alanis Morissette and Carly Simon. Whilst I adore Alanis and must say that this version of the song is possibly the best I’ve heard yet, I also have very fond memories of hearing Carly’s original version of this song back in the late eighties. It’s one of those emotive songs which will no doubt give you goose pimples whilst you reach for the tissues.

Made

#LittleLoves - August 2025

August is the month of many birthdays in this household, which of course means cake, cake, and more cake! Though my son now prefers a chocolate roulade log to a decorated birthday cake, my daughter, on the other hand, insists on all the bells and whistles when it comes to her big day. This year, she requested a ‘goth cake’ and whilst she’d shown me pictures of five-tiered intricately designed cakes in the hope that I might miraculously match that level of skill, I opted for something a little simpler. Still, E was delighted with the result, and as I’ve always tried to remind myself, the proof is in the pudding rather than the pretty designs.

Wore

#LittleLoves - August 2025

Given that I’m now two and a half stone lighter, my wardrobe has become somewhat limited. Even clothes that I purchased before the holiday are now far too big. Whilst I don’t mind the lagenlook, it doesn’t work all that well when your clothes won’t stay up or in place. I’m currently rocking leggings, dresses, and lightweight cardigans until I can refill my newly fitted wardrobes with something more my current size. Speaking of size, I’ve also found myself having to wear ring spacers so that I don’t lose my engagement, wedding, or eternity rings, as they too are falling off! Give it a year or so, and I’ll decide whether or not to have them resized.

My husband very kindly treated me to some brand new Romy Tymo Hair Wavers for my birthday, and so I’ve spent the last few weeks experimenting with my locks for a new look. I think I’ve probably burnt my hair more than styled it, but still, I quite like the effect.

My Top Three Moments From The Month Gone By

#LittleLoves - August 2025

August has been one heck of a month as Paul and I celebrated our eighteenth wedding anniversary, E turned twelve, I turned forty-something, and after months and months of hard work, studying, and then nervously waiting, J finally received his GCSE results. So here’s my top three moments of the month:

  1. Not only did J pass his GCSEs, but he completely and utterly smashed them! He achieved well over his predicted grades in all subjects and, quite frankly, blew us all out of the water. I cannot express how proud we are of him, though I’m sure he knows as we’ve not stopped praising him since. To celebrate, we had lunch at Hayes Garden Centre, followed by pudding at the lake whilst feeding the ducks, then spent a weekend riding the rollercoasters in Blackpool.
  2. Though I intended on having a tattoo before turning forty, I’ve remained a blank page up until this past week when I bit the bullet and ‘sat for the tat’. To celebrate turning the magic number, twenty-one multiplied by two, I finally ‘got ink’.
  3. Our beautiful little lady turned the terrific age of twelve this month; to celebrate, she spent the day with her cousin, then had a blast in Blackpool with one of her close friends.

Thanks for reading my #LittleLoves post. I look forward to catching up and reading through your #LittleLoves posts
