#LittleLoves- February 2024

Welcome to this month’s #LittleLoves post, which is part of a series celebrating the positive aspects of the month that you are very welcome to join.  Here are some of my #LittleLoves from February.

Read

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed Evie Woods ‘The Lost Bookshop’, I decided to look for further Times recommended reads and came across Monica Heisey’s ‘Really Good Actually’. After ordering, receiving, and reading the first few pages of this I couldn’t help but find myself gripped. I’m currently midway through this modern take on Bridget Jones and although the story is a little sad in places, I’m hugely impressed with the gritty, down-to-earth, and beautifully honest, witty writing style.

Watched

With it recently being the half-term holidays, we’ve enjoyed a fair amount of television programs and shows including The Grand Tour’s Sand Job’, Netflix’s ‘One Day‘ (a much-recommended beautiful but incredibly heart-wrenching watch), and our weekly watches such as Gladiators and Michael Mcintyre’s Big Show.

Heard

Last month Paul and I watched the entirety of Netflix’s series ‘Loudermilk’ during which we were introduced to a singer called ‘Lissie’. Following watching the show I later googled the Music and found that Lissie is indeed a real-life singer and songwriter that I could easily liken to a cross between Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, and Ani Difranco. I’ve since downloaded and have been listening to a number of Lissie’s songs including ‘When I’m Alone’. I just know my Dad would have loved this lady’s voice, style, and most certainly this song. Sadly, I’m unable to share my recent Music recommendations with him but if ‘the bar in the sky’ has a jukebox I’m sure he’s got this number playing.

Made

Other than a batch of cheese straws or two, either that or taping together 3D shapes as part of my darling daughter’s SAT exam revision, I can’t say I’ve made a huge amount this month. I have however made several purchases including a brand new lamp which has pride of place by my baby grand.

Wore

After a mooch around Manchester, I’m now sporting a rather cute and quirky green tie-dye-style cardigan. Otherwise, I’ve stuck to wearing my usual jeans, jumpers, hats, and scarves as it’s still bitterly cold old. My daughter, on the other hand, has a whole new wardrobe thanks to the joys of Afflecks Palace and I now have a resident goth in the house as she’s bopping around in wide-leg heavy denim jeans, black split sleeve tops, lace black gloves, and red and black stripy pixie cardigans… She’s her mother’s daughter what can I say?

And Lastly

February may have been short in terms of time but it’s been fairly action-packed for us all; Paul and I celebrated nineteen years together, it was then Pancake Day, followed shortly by Valentine’s Day, and then after months of rehearsing E, our amazing little lady, traveled to the AO Arena in Manchester where she joined 26,000 other children as part of the Young Voices choir. I couldn’t be a prouder parent at this point, I really cannot express how amazing my kids are and how much I adore them both.
