Welcome to this week’s #MySundaySnapshot post, which is part of a snap-sharing-blog-linky series that you are very welcome to join. Click here for further information and guidelines upon this linky should you wish to take part.
It’s been the half-term holidays ‘up eer in the North’ and whilst we spent the first half of the week catching up on endless medical appointments, we then spent the latter part of the week enjoying time together as a family including an impromptu trip to Manchester shopping.
We took the kids to each and every floor of the legendary ‘Afflecks Palace’ where they swiftly emptied our wallets as they selected a range of alternative, funky fashion clothing items and accessories. I too got swept up in the retro regalia and was fast to find myself carrying bags filled with multi-coloured cardigans, crystals, and Tarot decks. After a quick but necessary trip to the car and back (to empty our arms of the weight that we were then carrying) we perused around Primark and took a mooch around the Arndale Centre coming back laden with yet more bags.
Despite the grey, dreary weather and graffiti-clad streets that welcomed us to the city centre, my heart holds a specific space for the madness that is Manchester. Though my children found city life a little overwhelming, I felt right at home walking at my own pace through the crowded, cobbled streets as the busses, trains, trams, and traffic rushed on by. I love the hustle and bustle that is city life and though I completely understand it’s not for everyone, I find the atmosphere almost electric thus loved every moment of our Manchester trip.
With it recently being the Chinese New Year (it is now the year of the Dragon) Manchester is currently adorned with ruby red lantern lights that hang from the trees, splashing a captivating colour of crimson throughout the stoney, slate grey streets. I love how the city embraces every person, every perspective, every sexuality, every religion, every colour, and every culture. If only life was the same…

It sounds like you had a great day out! You’ve reminded me that I’m pretty sure I went to Afflecks Palace in 1993, when I was 19, when visiting my friend in the university holidays.
I love the way the red lanterns cheer up the darkness of this photo.
