If you’re tired of your current job role and want a change, there are a few things to consider. The first thing is you need to make sure that changing your job is the right idea; next, you need to understand what you want to do next and how it can benefit you and make your life better.

Switching Career? Here's What You Need to Know
Work Satisfaction

If you’re thinking about switching your career, chances are you are dissatisfied with your current role or life situation, but be aware of the grass is always greener mentality. You need to make sure that switching careers and changing your circumstances is the best idea – it might now be!

So how can you know when it’s time to change your career. First, don’t make any rash decisions; keep an app diary on your phone or carry a notebook with you, take notes about how you feel ion your job each day and what you want from your career. Do this for three months.

Personality Traits

One of the reasons people experience job dissatisfaction is because they are working in a role that doesn’t suit their skill set or personality. Unfortunately, this is a very common situation; most people need to perform a job role to pay the bills and rent, sacrificing happiness in the process.

If you’re switching careers, you don’t want to let this happen; instead, make it an opportunity to advance your career and improve your life satisfaction. Begin the process by analyzing your personality and discovering your best traits; align these with a job role to increase satisfaction.

Career Research

Research is key when looking for your next career move; research into your personality and into the careers that are available. If you take an online personality test – such as the Myres-Briggs test or something similar – you will be given a personality type at the end and job roles.

Take a look at the list to see if any of these job roles appeal to you, turn the longlist into a shortlist and then make a decision. Once you have a target job role, you can start researching that; what skills and experience will you need and do you have to train yourself up first?

Personal Statement

Nowadays, most job roles ask for a personal statement on the application; this is usually one page long and contains details about who you are, your experience, and why you are an excellent fit for the job you’re applying to. However, these statements can be tricky to write.

Personal statements are not only difficult to get right they are costly to get wrong. A personal statement is your chance to sell yourself to the recruiter and display your personality, so don’t take any risks if you’re not an experienced writer; instead, hire a personal statement service.

Upgrade Skills

Switching your career is a chance to upgrade your skills and improve your employability; even if you don’t get the position you want initially, upskilling is still an excellent way to increase your skills, knowledge, and confidence and make yourself more employable in the very near future.
