Being parents in a pandemic ain’t no easy task – the kids are almost always desperate for your attention either to quench their boredom, to fix their Lego or to look at their latest ‘whatever’ leaving very little time for you to get on with the housework or… to have fun with friends.
Nights out are no longer, there is no option to take a break and that can be really draining at times. Don’t get me wrong, we love our kids and each other but after a certain amount of time (it’s been six months since lockdown first began) you begin to crave alternative adult conversation.Â
With it being the bank holiday weekend, we decided to make the most of it by inviting some friends and their kids over for a mate-date-play-date. Like us, Steph and James have an older boy and a younger girl who are the ideal ages to play with both J & E, leaving us adults in peace to kick back, relax, have a few drinks, enjoy some snacks, and to share some adult banter without the worry of having to acquire babysitters.Â
The kids have really missed socialising with children their own age, they too are most likely craving alternative company and quite rightly so. It’s no use being stuck with the same people all day and all night long for six months, it’s enough to drive anyone up the wall.
The kids were delighted to have some friends to play with and they played in and outside of the house for almost eight hours solid and as a result, both J & E slept like logs last night!Â
Meanwhile, we enjoyed some fabulous conversation, a couple of adult card games, a chippy tea, and perhaps a few too many drinks along the way. That’s what bank holiday weekends are for right?
Thanks for reading. I look forward to catching up with your #TheOrdinaryMoments posts either through your own posts or comments upon this post.
