Routine Has Returned

The kids have been back at school for the past three days and already I feel like routine has returned. We are now back to helping with homework, emptying bags, shoe polishing, cleaning and filling lunch boxes and the wonders of the weekly chores. It feels as if Christmas and the new years celebrations were a million years ago, as my mind is now occupied with the day-to-day tasks and tribulations.

As I’d anticipated and expected, it’s been less than a week and already I am exhausted. To add to the exhaustion, I’ve also managed to injure myself somehow and am currently struggling with severe back pain.…

Returning To The Routine

The holidays are about to come to an end and although we’ve had a fortnight off from school and work, it feels like far longer. The kids and I are now more than ready to return into some kind of routine and I’m quite looking forward to starting a new term.

I’m well aware that we are still in the midst of winter and  its flipping freezing for a further two months, but the title ‘spring term’ seems to offer a little light at the end of the tunnel. Christmas has been and gone, the decorations are now down and I’m therefore done with the dark nights and the winter weather!…

Greek Gods & Costume Chaos

Over the past term our son J has been studying Greek Mythology. To celebrate his learning, J and his class friends took part in a ‘Greek Day’, where each of the children were asked to bring along greek themed food to share with the class and dress up as either a greek god/ goddess or a greek myth.

After spending almost three hours scouring the internet for greek god themed costumes, I found very little other than Julias Caesar outfits which weren’t entirely authentic but seemed to be the only option. As J and I had decided that he would be dressing as ‘Zeus’ (the god of thunder and lightning, who was also known as ‘The King of the Gods’), I had also ordered a beautiful gold, leafy headband which didn’t arrive in time.…

Hopes For High School

September has certainly been the month for school, school and yet more school. The kids have made a fantastic start in their new classes with their new teachers, they both seem incredibly settled and happy which makes life far easier for me. Our evenings however have been far from laid back as I’ve spent the majority of the past four weeks ferrying E & J to and from various clubs and social gatherings, we have also spent time at a couple of open evenings to consider J’s future secondary school.

Living in a rural area leaves us with fewer options when it comes to choices for secondary schools.…

#LivingArrows – Little Learners 38/53 (2018)

The children have been back at school for a fortnight now, they both seem incredibly happy and settled with their new teachers in their new classrooms and likewise, if my children are happy – then I too am a happy bunny.

In order to support and to strengthen our children’s learning, we spend about an hour each evening sat at the table working upon their reading, writing, spelling, mathematics and or any other subject they may have brought home to research or revise. Thankfully, the kids seem quite happy to sit and to do their homework each evening, they too understand that it’s an important part of the day which has become part of their regular routine.…
