As a family, we are a hugely creative household; we each enjoy spending time drawing, colouring, painting, crafting, cooking, and creating various bits and bobs in our spare time. I was delighted therefore when I was recently sent a copy of The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring Book, a recent release from Lisa Sterle published by Liminal11.

Lisa Sterle is the illustrator and creator of the iconic, bestselling Modern Witch Tarot. The Modern Witch Tarot is hugely popular and has been featured in the likes of the New York Times, Vogue Italia, and Cosmopolitan.

The Benefits Of Colouring
As simple and as straightforward as it may be, colouring can be hugely beneficial for both our physical and mental wellbeing.
According to numerous psychologists, colouring can help to reduce stress and anxiety. It can also help to kick start our brains as colouring stimulates both the left and right hemispheres of our brain, stimulating the entirety of our neurological system. Colouring forces individuals to pay attention and this activity can offer individuals the time and space to reflect and learn more about themselves.
Colouring encourages those who may suffer from illnesses, diseases, and conditions to practise fine motor skills, retain focus, and increase concentration. Colouring has both a physical and mental calming effect, this can aid those with conditions such as epilepsy as colouring is said to reduce the number of seizures due to patients being calmer.
Colouring may be nostalgic for some, often returning them to childhood memories, this can be emotionally beneficial for those who struggle with the likes of depression or anxiety. The art of colouring is often used to aid creativity, and meditative techniques, and is an activity ideal for all ages.
The Modern Witch
First published in November 2019, The Modern Witch Tarot is of the World’s bestselling Tarot decks. Since its release, Lisa and Liminal11 have added further publications to the Modern Witch Tarot franchise including exclusive prints, the Modern Witch Tarot Journal (available in limited or standard editions), The Modern Witch Deluxe Jigsaw Puzzle, and The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring Book.
The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring Book
The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring Book is an interactive paperback book that includes a foreword written by Lisa, a short introduction, a guide on how to use the book (this explains the various colour significances and codes), and a double-page on each of the major arcana Tarot cards (one side of which explains the various attributes and elements of the image, the other side being a black and white outline to colour).
Various spaces to write extensive reflections on the art and act of colouring in relation to the Tarot have been included, and there are a wealth of black and white outlines of each of the minor arcana cards from the deck to colour. The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring Book is concluded with a Further Reading section and the bonus ‘Badass’ card, which is of course outlined in black and white to be coloured by the reader.
Keep Calm & Colour
Both my daughter and I enjoy colouring and though E is only eight-years-old, she seems to prefer using and working with adult colouring books as they offer more challenging and intricate designs.
Though I’d hoped to keep The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring book all to myself, my daughter was keen to join me in colouring the various images and who was I to step in her way?
Whilst my daughter was more interested in colouring (using her own choice of colours), I on the other hand rather enjoyed reading through the realms of information upon each of the cards. I love how Lisa has taken the time to explain the symbology, the colours, and the imagery within her artwork for each of the cards. The Modern Witch Tarot Colouring Book has provided me with a stronger connection to the deck as I have built a stronger understanding of its imagery following reading the wealth of information included within this beautiful book.
