Our little lady E has a bit of a thing for small, plastic toys such as Shopkins and other mini-figures. She was therefore delighted when we were sent The Num Noms ‘Diner’ and ‘Pizza Party’ set to review.
What are Num-Noms?
Num-Noms are cute, scented, collectible figures based upon food and flavours.
“A cupful of cuteness and a spoonful of surprise make Num-Noms. To create your own flavour fusion mix a Num and a Nom. It’s a recipe for mischief with so many wacky combos. The Num Noms are the cutest, mini dishes! And, they smell so delicious!”
Opening & Investigating the Num-Noms
After opening the ‘Diner Num Noms’ set we realised that there was also a ‘mystery’ Num Nom toy to add to the excitement. E spent some time investigating the box trying to guess what may be inside.
We finished opening both the ‘Diner’ and ‘Pizza Party’ sets then laid the Num-Noms out neatly on the table and began identifying each one along with the accessories included.
E was pleasantly surprised to find that Num-Noms were smelly, she spent almost twenty minutes sniffing each Num-Nom trying to describe what she could smell. Each ‘Num’ is scented according to a specific flavour, this seems to add to the sensory experience of the product.
I had never come across Num-Noms until now and it took me a little while to work out there are ‘Nums’ and there are ‘Noms’. The Nums are hollow and rubbery in texture whereas the Noms are solid plastic and vibrate at the press of a button.
Hilarity ensued once E became aware that by touching each of the Noms buttons they then vibrated and began skittering across the kitchen table. I encouraged her to begin practicing stacking the Num-Noms as the pictures on the packaging suggested but E was far too taken screaming with laughter watching the little Noms buzzing about.
Combining Flavours and Creating Combos
After a while E began trying to match the Num-Noms that we received to the ‘list sheets’ which are also provided in each pack. We learnt which Num-Noms we were in possession of and began thinking about what we could make if we were to combine particular flavours.
We decided to combine the ‘ Butterscotch Go-Go’ Nom with the ‘Sammy Smores’ Num to create a sweet, toffee and marshmallow Num-Nom recipe. We then took to the kitchen to create our recipe for real.
Getting Dressed For The Occasion
Along with the two packs of Num-Noms we were also sent some rather fetching Chefs hats which after a little fiddling around we managed to put together, we then added the Num-Noms sticker which were also provided with as a final touch.
E spent a few minutes pulling her Chefs hat on and off her face before finally allowing me to dress her in an apron and set to work. I think she looks like a pretty cute #MiniChef!
After getting dressed for the occasion we located the ingredients required for our ‘Num-Nom’ themed recipe and began weighing out each item. Should you fancy giving our ‘Marshmallow Toffee Krispy Cakes’ a go then here is the recipe…
Marshmallow Toffee Krispy Cake
You will need:
- 7 oz Marshmallows
- 7 oz Toffee
- 2 oz Butter
- 6 oz Rice Krispies
You may also need a spare marshmallow or two for ‘little helpers’ to enjoy.
Instructions:
- Weigh out each ingredient.
- Put the marshmallows, toffee and butter into a large pan.
- Give your ‘little helper’ a marshmallow or two to keep them entertained whilst you safely melt the pan contents.
- Using a low heat, melt the marshmallows, toffee and butter until the mix becomes goopy.
- Pour the Rice Krispies into a large mixing bowl.
- Pour the melted contents of the pan over the Rice Krispies.
- Stir together carefully.
- Press your mixture into a large oven dish or tray.
- Allow the mixture to cool for thirty minutes (you can put it in the fridge to speed up the cooling process).
- Chop the cake into squares and serve.
The Verdict
After playing with the Num-Noms for a further thirty minutes while the Marshmallow Toffee Krispy Cake cooled and set in the fridge we then took our resident builders a few pieces to sample. I would say by the empty plates and licking of lips it was pretty good! We also sampled the goods for ourselves and shared a similar opinion, my husband certainly seemed pleased with the results as it didn’t last long.
Other Recipes
There are so many recipes which the Num-Noms can inspire, we created a few other ideas by stacking and combining flavours. This evening we will be enjoying a simple children’s meal – Chips, Burger and Tomato Sauce which can was once again inspired by the Num-Noms combos.
If we had the time we would go one step further and make our own burgers but sadly that isn’t the case this evening with swimming lessons, work and cleaning up the daily dust from the ongoing building work.

Our Thoughts
E for one loves her Num-Noms and has spent many hours already playing with the little food figures giggling as they ‘go-go’. I spent some time investigating the smells myself and whilst there were a few which I wasn’t particularly keen on I can certainly see the appeal for young children.
The little buzzing, rubbery, aromatic toys are perfect for little hands, providing a total sensory experience whilst also inspiring children with how they food and flavours can be combined to create some tasty treats.
Disclosure: I was sent the above products for the purpose of this post however all opinions are my own (and E’s of course!).
