Designed and created by the founders of Liminal 11, Mike Medaglia and Darren Shill, the Luna Sol Tarot is an uplifting, healing tarot deck. This deck is the ideal tool for reflection within our beautifully diverse world.

Liminal 11 recently sent me a copy of the second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot which I have spent the past week or so working with and already, I am head over heels with this divine deck.

Beautiful Boxes

The second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot arrives packaged in a beautifully decorated, sturdy, cardboard box featuring a magnetic-close base, which upon opening features a quirky quote from Lewis Caroll. Inside the box is another sturdy, open-top cardboard casing which houses both a guidebook and the Luna Sol Tarot deck. Each of the two boxes feature interior decor (in a navy night-time theme versus a sunshine yellow-daylight theme) and each has intricate exterior decoration.

Within the packaging is a simple, small, hardback guidebook along with the eighty-card Luna Sol Tarot deck.

The Guidebook

The second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot is accompanied by a dinky, cute, sixty-page, colour-printed, hardback guidebook which includes a dedication page, a contents page, a foreword, an introduction, a quick guide to the major arcana, a single page spread upon each of the major arcana cards identifying their meaning, a short paragraph upon each of the minor arcana cards, four example spreads, and a final note.

I personally adore the small, hardback guidebooks which Liminal 11 continue to print and produce – they are super cute and really easy to gain reference and guidance from.

The Cards

The second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot is a standard sized, eighty-card tarot deck which includes two bonus cards.

The colours featured within this deck are of a pale, pastel palette and the continuing theme of the moon vs the sun (aka Luna Sol) is apparent throughout due to the yellow and navy tones alongside regular use of ying-yang symbology. Each of the cards features a simple white border with easy-to-read, stylish titling in a coloured band at the base of the image and alongside this, the major arcana cards are also numbered at the top of each card.

The backs of the Luna Sol Tarot cards are a pale yellow featuring clouds, birds and sunlight against navy blue featuring stars and flowers, and the moonlight. A black and white series of mirrored circles sit in the centre of the backs of these cards which aren’t entirely reversible due to their design.

Printed on luxurious, 350 gsm, thick, matt card, the second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot is super easy to shuffle and a joy to work with.

The Major Arcana

The Luna Sol Tarot follows the traditional Rider Waite Tarot setup, only using a much more modern and diverse arrangement. The gentle, pastel colours which run throughout this deck offer a gentle, easy, and incredibly balanced read, I particularly love how many of the cards feature the ying-yang – a favoured symbol from my teenage years, which I still feel a deep connection to as I strongly believe that this world and the life which it holds are delicately balanced.

Included within the second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot are two exclusive bonus cards – Wu Wei (symbolising the need to allow and to adapt) and Duality (signifying balance and growth). I quite like having extra cards within a deck as I feel it adds further interest and depth to readings.

The Minor Arcana

Whilst there are a few ‘pip-style’ cards within the minor arcana of the Luna Sol Tarot, the majority of the cards within this deck feature a range of diverse characters which are a modern reflection of the traditional Rider Waite Tarot.

The Luna Sol Tarot includes humans of all races, ages, shapes, and sizes – it is divinely diverse, and as the images are so highly detailed readings can be carried out intuitively without the need to follow a guidebook. There is so much to see, so much meaning and so many messages within the cards, offering a fuller, much more detailed reading.

Here is a short video-walkthrough guide that I put together further outlining and explaining The Luna Sol Tarot.

Reading With The Luna Sol Tarot

I have been working with the second edition of the Luna Sol Tarot for almost a week now and already I have fallen for this deck. I love how smooth and easy the cards are to shuffle, I love the pastel colours which run throughout the deck and I especially favour the light vs dark or sun vs moon theming of the Luna Sol Tarot.

Whenever I have carried out readings using the Luna Sol Tarot I can actually feel a sense of balance and calm wash over me – it’s such a healing and harmonious deck to work with.

To Summarise

Having spent the past week using and reading the Luna Sol Tarot, I cannot recommend this deck enough as not only is it fabulous to work with and to read from, but it is such high quality and with the mini hardback guidebook and beautiful presentation box, it is the ideal gift for any level of tarot reader, it is also really fairly priced!

Featuring pretty pastel colours, sunshine vs moonlight and beautifully diverse imagery, the Luna Sol Tarot deck is the ideal tool to draw intuitive guidance and support from.
