Our daughter E seems to have a bit of thing for those ‘surprise egg’ videos which there seem to be endless amounts of on Kids YouTube. Lord knows why she enjoys watching a random stranger unwrapping or unboxing toys but it seems to keep her entertained and who am I to argue otherwise?
L.O.L Surprise Doll
Much to E’s delight we were recently sent a L.O.L Series 2 Surprise Doll to review, L.O.L Surprise Dolls are a multilayered modern-day pass-the-parcel for one or more to enjoy, much like an over-sized surprise egg only spherical, they each feature seven layers of surprises for children to unwrap and to enjoy.
What Exactly Is In A L.O.L Surprise Doll?
Inside each L.O.L Surprise Doll ball are secret messages, collectible sticker sheets, a water bottle charm, shoes, outfits, accessories and finally a surprise doll all of which are said to be suitable for children aged three-years and over. Once the doll has been opened and revealed it can then be fed using the water bottle, she will then cry, spit or apparently ‘go potty’, when placed in cold water the dolls also change colour adding some extra magic to the L.O.L Surprise set.
Once opened the ball itself may be used in one of four ways, children may either use it as a purse or carrying case, a bath play set, a hangout play set or alternatively they may simply use it as a doll display case.
Unwrapping The L.O.L Surprise Doll
After a busy day at School E was elated when she first saw the L.O.L Surprise Doll awaiting her arrival, her brother J was also rather interested in the package and couldn’t resist from getting involved whilst opening each layer.
The layers were fairly tough to remove and although there are tear strips the plastic was awkward to tear away, due to this and the odd squabble between the kids whilst opening the L.O.L Surprise Doll it was quite difficult to video the experience. There is however a short amount of video footage (see below) alongside numerous photos which were taken during the unwrapping session.
E certainly seemed to enjoy the experience and although I’m not entirely sure whether the contents are worth the price label the children unquestionably thought otherwise.
Upon removing the many layers of the L.O.L Surprise Doll that we were sent we found that we had the following items:
- 1 x LOL Surprise Doll
- 1 x Water Bottle
- 1 x Pair Pink Shoes
- 1 x Outfit
- 1 x Secret Message Sticker
- 1 x Sticker Sheet
- 1 x Carry Case
E has since used the case in which the L.O.L Surprise Doll was packed as a carry case for her doll and its many accessories which have become a ‘bath time toy’ as it’s the easiest place in which to feed the doll water and also to test its colour changing capabilities. Sadly we found that E’s doll is not one of the colour changing dolls but bless her, this doesn’t stop her from checking each and every bath time!
Purchasing & Pricing Information
There are 45 different dolls to collect within the L.O.L Surprise Doll range, each set is priced at £9.99 and is available from a wide range of high street and online retailers including Toys R Us, Smyths Toys, Argos and AmazonÂ
Our Final Thoughts
Children love a surprise and whilst the L.O.L Surprise Dolls may seem slightly pricey considering their small thus easy to lose plastic content they certainly seem to excite little ones. I may well be a tight-fisted, grumpy parent but I don’t half love watching my little ones scream with glee whilst opening surprises such as the L.O.L Surprise Dolls. Unlike most toys which my children lose interest in rather quickly, E has become rather taken with her doll given that it is now a bath time favourite.

Disclosure: We were sent the above product for the purpose of this post however all opinions are my daughter E’s and my own.

My son loves his L.O.L doll and actually still plays with it. I think the thing for him was the unwrapping of the toy. They maybe over priced but are good quality and would make great gifts- no wrapping needed 🙂
