Being an avid Tarot reader and deck collector, I was thrilled to receive the latest decks from Deckstiny including the pastel perfect and incredibly cute ‘Kittycorn Tarot‘. The Kittycorn Tarot is a seventy-nine card, feline-themed Tarot deck that uses the traditional Rider Waite Smith setup.
Who Is Deckstiny?
Based in Thailand, Deckstiny (a company originally named Shuffle Tarot) is a team collaboration of author Mate Horonumber, illustrator JUJIIR & Petpodpot Pettoonza and artist Oomsin Phumphat.
Trendy Tuck-Boxes
The Kittycorn Tarot arrives perfectly packaged in a trendy, cardboard tuck-box. Both the cards and the packaging are initially wrapped in a protective layer of cellophane and whilst I understand that this is to protect the cards, I personally feel that the plastic needs to be replaced with an environmentally friendly alternative.
What, No Guidebook?
Though Deckstiny has included the odd guidebook with their decks from time to time, there aren’t many of their publications that have done so. The Kittycorn Tarot is one of Deckstiny’s many decks that comes without a guidebook.
The Cards
The Kittycorn Tarot is a standard Tarot sized deck (measuring 120 x 70mm) printed on 350 GSM matt-linen texture Japanese quality card stock, featuring simple white borders, plain white edging, peach Kittycorn symmetrical card backs and an informal titling font.
As always, Deckstiny has made use of a luxurious, high-quality, thick, matt-effect card which looks and feels great to work with.
Certification Cards
The Kittycorn Tarot arrives with three additional cards: two art cards, and a certification card identifying the unique copy number of the deck (Deckstiny prints only a limited amount of each of their decks, and each particular deck is stamped and certified with a unique number).
The Kittycorn Tarot
First released in 2022, the Kittycorn Tarot is a modern take on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot featuring cutesy kittens with unicorn rainbow horns. The pastel-toned artwork is super sweet though rather light in colour, which set against the white titling font can be an issue on some cards as the font is almost unreadable.
The Major Arcana
Each of the major arcana cards within the Kittycorn Tarot is traditionally titled, although what would usually be named ‘The Hanged Man’ has been renamed as the ‘Hanged Meow’ which I personally deem as rather sweet.
Deckstiny often includes bonus cards throughout their decks, including the Kittycorn Tarot where they have added a ‘Happy Squirrel’ card.
The Minor Arcana
The minor arcana within the Kittycorn Tarot uses the traditional RWS suits of Cups, Wands, Swords and Pentacles and the cutesy, kitty imagery continues throughout.
Let’s Walkthrough The Kittycorn Tarot
In order to further illustrate and explain The Kittycorn Tarot, I have put together a detailed walkthrough of each of the cards within the deck.
Reading and Working with The Kittycorn Tarot
It’s been an absolute pleasure to spend the past week or so working and reading with the Kittycorn Tarot. This is a super sweet, adorable deck ideal for readers of all ages and abilities. My eight-year-old daughter was particularly keen on looking through the cards as she has a soft spot for unicorns and she also rather enjoyed the artwork, all of which is ideal for children, teens, and young readers.
The cards themselves are super smooth to shuffle and the overall readings that I have carried out seem to be accurate. Whilst some people find traditional Tarot decks a little unnerving, the Kittycorn Tarot is far too cute and far too friendly to ever be feared, thus this is an ideal deck for initial readings with those who may be nervous.
Purchasing and Pricing Information
The Kittycorn Tarot is available to purchase online via Deckstiny’s Etsy Shop, where it is currently priced at £48.67, although postage and packaging will set you back a further £32.95 (taking the total of this deck to £81.65 which I understand is quite expensive for a Tarot deck but if you are willing to purchase a number of Deckstiny’s titles simultaneously then you may make an overall saving on the postage and packaging).
To Summarise
This luxurious, captivating, kitty-themed, cutesy deck is suitable for all ages and abilities. Although postage and packaging prices can make this quite an expensive deck to acquire, the quality and sheer charm of the Kittycorn Tarot are simply irresistible.
