It’s coming towards the end of autumn, the leaves have almost finished falling from the trees and winter is well on its way. I’m feeling fairly festive and have already managed to get through a huge chunk of the Christmas shopping, which is a relief as I doubt we will have much time over the next few weeks.
Whilst driving out on an emergency mission for a last-minute photo-frame, I spotted the first Christmas lights of the year. This particular house is well-known for being deliriously decorated, the words ‘over the top’ just don’t cut the mustard with this one. Either way, it was really nice to see the sparkly lights greet me following a fifty minute drive along the dark, windy roads to our nearest shopping town.
The nights are certainly drawing in, come tea time it feels as if I should be wearing my jim jams and be ready for bed! The days feel shorter somehow, I miss the daylight and therefore try to get out as much as possible over the weekends.
Last weekend Paul and I went for a drive out to the park with the kids, whilst on our way we snapped this shot of the Duddon River. This wasn’t the easiest photo to capture, both Paul and I have travelled over the ‘Duddon Bridge’ countless times with camera in hand, yet due to our speed or lack of height we have never been able to take a decent photo of the river below.
The scenery is simply breath-taking, it’s certainly an enjoyable drive (in the daylight at least). We are so lucky to live where we do, it may be almost an hours drive to civilisation but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I could skate away on
It stays pretty green
I’m going to make a lot of money
Then I’m going to quit this crazy scene
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I could skate away on
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
I could skate away on
I’m selfish and I’m sad
Now I’ve gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
I could skate away on
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I could skate away on”
