If there’s one day of the year that I love it has to be Bonfire Night. I have always and will forever be a massive fan of fireworks.
There’s something rather magical about the heavens glittering with bright flashes of colour dancing patterns into the night sky, I for one could watch fireworks forevermore.
On a crisp, cold autumn night there’s nothing better than wrapping up and warm and heading out to huddle around a fire. The smell of freshly blown gunpowder thick in the air, scents of mulled wine and treacle toffee wafting from across the way whilst excited children shriek as they dance about in their Wellington boots, twirling their arms as they make shapes with their sparklers.
As always we spent Bonfire Night at our local display where the children met with family and friends as we gathered around the fire merrily munching our toffee and sipping our wine as we awaited the firework display.
Winter is well on the way, our breath hung in the air as we conversed with friends whilst endlessly adjusting the children’s bobble hats, ear muffs and such-like.
The crowds oohed as the first rocket flew high into the air, colourful sparks flying left right and centre as the display began. A plethora of colours flashing and crashing bright above as the fireworks popped, fizzled and screeched across the sky.
I watched as J’s face beamed with excitement as he and his school friends stood spectating by the fence, meanwhile E found comfort in her Daddy’s arms. It didn’t take her long to get into the spirit of things though as moments later I turned back to see her eyes alight, her smile wide as she gave a running commentary upon all the colours that she could see.
We stayed to share sparklers with our friends Vicky, Mike, Ben & Liam before nipping into the village hall for refreshments. Having stuffed the children full of hot dogs, cakes and buns we made our way home where the wellies were kicked off, the kettle was promptly boiled and we warmed ourselves with mugs of hot chocolate before the children’s baths and bedtime.
Fireworks continue to pop and snap in the distance as I write this post whilst perched against my pillows. The children are both soundly asleep following a full day of fun and fresh air, the dog is curled up comfortably on her blanket listening to the sultry sounds of Magic FM, Paul is spending time soaking in the tub meanwhile I’m about to embark on a nineties rom-com before heading to bed.
Despite having to work earlier in the day we’ve had a super Sunday, a brilliant bonfire night and a wonderful weekend all round.
Thanks for reading and as always I look forward to catching up with your #MySundayPhoto pictures either through your own posts or comments upon this post.
