It’s official, winter has arrived. The temperature has dropped dramatically and we saw the first flurries of snow earlier this week. I have pulled out the soft, snuggly blankets for the sofa and have finally been allowed to put the fire on.
I took this photo a few weeks ago whilst giving the fire a ‘pre-winter’ test run, it’s since been lit almost daily. I love watching a fire, the flames almost seem to dance and if you look closely enough you can sometimes make out shapes from within the flames.
My friend recently told me that whilst camping with a group of friends he found that they all sat around the camp fire in silence, each one of them totally transfixed by the flames.
There is a certain kind of magic about a flickering flame, maybe this is why we use candle flames to remember and to take a moment to reflect.
November 13th will always remain as a day of reflection for me, a day to remember, a day which will remain etched in my mind forever but serves as a reminder of just how lucky I am to have such a wonderful family with two amazing children.
