As of this evening, Christmas has officially arrived in our household. Poor Paul spent an hour looking for a plug for the tree lights (which turned out to be in the bag where I thought it was in the first place) then a further hour and a half fixing and soldering the flipping tree lights.
Having wasted at least half of the day, I was half tempted to take the tree and its lights and lob the lot into the bin. Obviously, I’d have replaced the tree and the lights with a higher-quality alternative. Unfortunately I’d already promised the kids that they could decorate the tree today (why exactly I did that I’m not sure).
I’m not feeling entirely myself at present, I’m run down and I’ve spent the past twenty-four hours within close proximity to either the bathroom or the bed. I wasn’t really in the mood for titivating trees, nor did I have the patience to put up with the endless amounts of glitter and gubbins which were then left all over the carpet. Lord knows why I was so bothered about the bits on the carpet, as twenty minutes into decorating our delightful daughter spilt her dish of chocolate custard all over the carpet.
Thankfully the tree is now up, the carpets have been cleaned and I can finally sit and soak up the twinkly lights whilst convalescing on the couch.
“You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
Voices singing, let’s be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Rockin’ around the Christmas tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancin’ merrily
In the new old-fashioned way”
Lee Perry – Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree
