It’s been over a year since I last rode a horse, I’ve been meaning to book a ride for some time now but with working weekends I had little to no time in which to do much of anything. Thankfully working weekends is no longer an issue, I was therefore finally able to get back into the saddle and to make the best of yesterdays beautiful weather with a beach ride.
It was great to have a little time out to myself: being sat in the saddle has always given me the much-needed ‘peace’ which my mind seems to crave.
I was rather nervous about getting back on the horse, much-like riding a bike though – it all came flooding back. The clear blue sky, the freshly washed shore, the glistening water and the intense heat from the sun made for fantastic riding conditions.
I should have smothered myself in factor something or other prior to leaving for my ride, I was too busy however searching for my jodhpurs and riding gloves to be concerned with sun protection. As a result of my own stupidity and self-neglect I now look much-like a lobster, I would pass this off as a healthy-glow only it’s concentrated mainly upon my chest, leaving me with what I can only describe as a sizzling rack!
It was however great to get outdoors and incredibly exhilarating to be back in the saddle and back on the beach.
“I got me some horses
To ride on, to ride on
They say that your demons
Can’t go there
So I got me some horses
To ride on, to ride on
As longs as your army
Keeps perfectly still
And maybe I’ll find me
A sailor, a tailor
And maybe together
We’ll make motherwell
So I got me some horses
To ride on, to ride on
As long as your army
Keeps perfectly still”
