So without further ado, here are My Five Favourite Monthly Moments (#MFFMM) from January 2024:
New Year
Paul and I usually spend New Year’s Eve snuggled on the sofa flicking between Jools Holland and the BBC coverage of the big countdown. This year, however, we were invited to my brother and sister in laws New Year’s party in their new house and whilst I was slightly apprehensive, given that it was a rather large gathering, we had a fantastic time.
We then spent New Year’s Day relaxing at home and I sorted through my drawers and made room for my sparkly new stationery which now has pride of place right by my bedside.
Gamer Girl
I’ve never been a big fan of sales shopping – don’t get me wrong, I love a bargain but I simply cannot cope with the boxing day hustle and bustle. I’d much rather curl up on the couch and scroll through the sales on my phone. However, my husband somehow managed to convince me to brave both the crowds and the miserable weather shortly after boxing day and whilst in Curry’s I somehow ended up treating myself to a brand new Asus Rog Ally aka a hand-held PC.
Though I have a Macbook, it’s only ever used for work purposes as Apple’s were never intended nor designed for gaming and although Paul has a monster of a PC here at home, that’s his really. If I were to fancy playing a game I’d therefore be limited to Nintendo-based games, which are great but aren’t quite the same as PC-based games.
It’s been years since I last played The Sims, Alice McGee, and such-like thus I was delighted to finally be able to game without having to take up desk space with either a PC or laptop. It may have been expensive but if I’m honest, it’s been an amazing distraction from the contents of my own mind which is exactly what I’ve needed of late.
Mirror Mirror On The Wall
Whilst spending a few hours scrubbing and cleaning the upstairs bathrooms, I realised just how rusty and old the kid’s bathroom mirror had become thus have ordered both a replacement and an upgrade to their current LED mirror which is quite literally on its last legs. I’ve spent years sending the kids’ toothbrushes back and forth between our ensuite and their bathroom as they’ve needed to be charged but their bathroom lacks charging points. Thankfully, this new mirror has both LED lights and charging points so I’m hoping the ‘toothbrush’ fiasco will be a thing of the past.
Books, Books, and MORE Books!
Just like her Mum, E is a total bookworm and spends most of her life with her nose wedged firmly between the pages of a book. I’ve always said ‘you can never overspend on books” as I am a firm believer that reading is key, not only to learning but also to escape from reality in order to achieve ultimate relaxation.
E received a huge amount of books for Christmas and whilst I’d expected them to last her for a few months, it turns out she’s a must faster reader than I had anticipated. I have therefore scoured Amazon Marketplace (you really can get some great deals if you’re willing to buy pre-loved) and have since acquired the entirety of Jacqueline Wilson’s Hetty Feather collection. Needless to say, E was delighted and I’m hoping that these books may last her until at least Easter time.
Clean & Tidy
After months of being battered by severe storms and heavy rain, our garden was beginning to look a little worse for ware. Paul and I decided to make a start on sprucing things up for spring and though we’re yet to replace the floral decor and repaint the decking, we’ve scrubbed the grass, emptied and cleaned out the hot tub, replaced the filters, cleaned out the trampoline, and Paul’s re-sanded the lawn ready for it be brushed down before we move things around a little. It feels great to look out of the window and see ‘green’ rather than manky moss, mud and puddles everywhere.
Thanks for reading My Five Favourite Monthly Moments; I look forward to reading and catching up on your #MFFMM posts and comments.
