I’m well aware that people are desperate to see their family and to spend Christmas time together but we need to get real – we are in the middle of a world-wide pandemic, inches away from a vaccine, so why blow it now just for the sake of one day?…

Today marks the first time in over a year that Paul and I have been ‘child-free’ for the evening, it felt really weird driving the kids to my Mum’s house knowing that Dad wouldn’t be there…

Having enjoyed a coffee and a natter with my Mum, I then left the kids for the night and took a little stroll through the square (where I took this festive photo) towards the churchyard to pay Dad a visit.…

“A world of wonder lay withoutIt was all of nature’s callingWith field and forest, clouds and sunCascades of salt water falling

With heights and valleys, dark ravinesIvy thick and wild, deep and thorny scenesAnd yet each thing did love its placeIn the lap of all of nature’s sprawling

And so and so it goes, and so and so it goes

I asked the one whose land this wasIf I might have a tokenTo take with me back to the other sideTo have and to keep unspoken

I asked three times and was thrice deniedI asked again without my prideAnd found I’d lost that world I’d livedReturned as one now broken”
