Today marks the first time in over a year that Paul and I have been ‘child-free’ for the evening, it felt really weird driving the kids to my Mum’s house knowing that Dad wouldn’t be there…
Having enjoyed a coffee and a natter with my Mum, I then left the kids for the night and took a little stroll through the square (where I took this festive photo) towards the churchyard to pay Dad a visit. It’s the first time that I’ve been to his grave following the funeral last week and though it was really nice to see all the flowers, cards, and such-like, it felt strange, silent, and somber.
After an emotional afternoon, I returned home to my ‘Elf duties’ as Paul and I spent two hours building followed by a further three hours wrapping. To say I am exhausted is an understatement but at least we’ve now got Christmas wrapped up and ready!
“O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
How lovely are thy branches!

Sending love and hugs. It sounds so bittersweet being child free, knowing your dad isn’t with your kids.
I hope the funeral went OK, well as OK as a funeral can be.
I am glad you’re all ready for Christmas.
What a pretty tree x
Thanks Kim x
Lovely photo of the tree. I am so sorry for your loss, Rachel. Sending you warm hugs.

Thanks x
What a beautiful photo. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to visit the graveyard for the first time since your dad’s funeral. I hope it wasn’t too tough for your mum and the kids being without him.
I hope they’ve had a fun night together
Sending you lots of love, I’m sure it’s going to be difficult especially over Christmas but lovely you have the children to focus on too
The kids are my little sparkles of joy
sorry to learn about your loss. Especially so close to Christmas.
