Welcome to this week’s #MySundaySnapshot post, which is part of a snap-sharing-blog-linky series that you are very welcome to join. Click here for further information and guidelines upon this linky should you wish to take part.
It was my husband’s birthday earlier this week and along with baking and eating a gigantic chocolate cake, we celebrated by enjoying a family day out in Maryport. We’ve been intending on taking the kids to a climbing wall for a few years now but we were never too sure whether E would be up for the action.
Whilst we’d usually have plans in place well before the event, this year we left Paul’s birthday celebration ideas to the very last minute and somehow managed to squeeze ourselves a booking at the Maryport’s ‘Clip ‘n’ Climb’ along with an hour in ‘Cave at the Wave’ for some action-packed fun.
Unfortunately, Paul, E, nor I liked the caving much. It felt far too much of a squeeze and the claustrophobia got the better of us all. J meanwhile was as happy as a rat up a drain pipe (or perhaps down a drain pipe?) ferreting his way around the various plastic pipes to discover in the dark ball pools and such like. He loved the caving/ pothole experience – thankfully it wasn’t the real deal thus we could enjoy a coffee whilst we waited for him.
The climbing walls were however a hit with Paul and the kids. I opted to sit that one out as I quite simply do not do heights. Luckily I took my book and camera along to keep me entertained and to capture some snaps of the family having fun.

Sounds like a fun family outing! Happy belated birthday to Paul!
That sounds like a good day! I would definitely give the caving a miss too.
It’s one thing caving in a safe environment like you went to but caving in reality is going underground in the dark with only a head torch where you slide through cold water and mud wriggling through gaps and holes. I enjoyed it years ago when I did it on an Outward Bound Course but I doubt I would do it today
It’s great when you can think of something unusual and fun to do on a birthday. My husband used to like going to aeroplane museums. I can’t imagine liking going in caves or climbing (not that I could anyway!)
Sounds like a wonderful birthday! I always pick games now for my birthday – my husband doesn’t get it but I miss playing with the kids like I used to in the school holidays. It’s such a precious time. I get it back for Mother’s day or my birthday when we go bowling or to hijinx or whatever fun I choose. It’s so nice for the siblings to get back together too, now that one has moved out and the other is always out…Lovely stuff!
