Though we had originally planned to visit the local Dickensian Festival over the weekend, our plans changed somewhat due to the rath of Storm Arwen. After spending Friday night listening to the wind howling and wailing, we woke on Saturday morning to find that hundreds of trees around our local area had fallen leaving thousands of people without power, and in my Mum’s case without power, a phone line, or water… Given that most of the local roads were blocked with fallen trees, and with the recent outbreak of the ‘Covid 19 Omnicrom variant we deemed it safer to stay at home.
Though the kids were a little disappointed to miss out, we opted to bring the Christmas magic right into our living room by putting up the tree and then decorating in and around the house for Christmas. Mum arrived midway through the mayhem and after hanging the baubles, she joined us for a takeaway before heading back to the blackout zone.
Mum finally had her power restored early on Sunday morning, followed shortly by her water supply and whilst we had planned on having a family Sunday Roast, it then started snowing thus Mum opted to avoid further disruption and enjoyed a quiet night in whilst we threw caution to the wind (quite literally) and hopped in the hot tub with some mulled wine and Christmas songs before enjoying a roast lunch whilst watching Home Alone.
Though it wasn’t quite the weekend we had planned, it turned out far better and far more festive than we had imagined.
Thank you for reading and as always, I look forward to catching up with your #LivingArrows either through your own posts or comments upon this post.
