Bonfire night came early for us this year, as we visited a very short but sweet local display over the weekend. We’ve stocked up on sparklers and are all ready for round two tomorrow night, here’s hoping that the weather stays on our side and that we can enjoy the display without getting drenched.
Once over E was a massive fan of fireworks, so much so that when my Dad had asked her what she wanted for Christmas, her answer was simply “fireworks Grandad, I want fireworks!”. Thankfully my folks didn’t buy our then two-year-old fireworks for Christmas. However, shortly after (on New Year’s Eve) they rocked up with a box of you guessed it… fireworks. E, as you can imagine, was over the moon and moments later we were all sat watching the wonderful fireworks as she continued to shout “more more” at the top of her tiny toddler voice.
These days however our little lady seems fearful of both fireworks and sparklers. It took some convincing before she’d even hold a sparkler this year, thus I’m hoping with further ‘exposure therapy’ tomorrow evening she’ll conquer her newfound fear and grow accustomed to the big bangs.
Our Sparkly Princess
J, on the other hand, has never been a fan of fireworks, this year however he was all for the big bangs and rather enjoyed spinning a sparkler or two.
Whilst at the display, J also enjoyed the burgers, sweets, and treats whilst I had my first piping-hot, mulled wine of the year, which I somehow sloshed all over my hands. It was worth the scolded skin just to ‘feel the festive burn’.
Move Over Harry Potter
I love this time of year, it may be bitterly cold out, but once you’ve wrapped up warm there’s nothing quite like standing by a bonfire with your kids whilst watching the fireworks and of course drinking your mulled wine.
Thanks for reading and as always I look forward to catching up with your #LivingArrows either through your own posts or comments upon this post.

They look so happy with their sparklers! It’s such a rite of passage! x
It so is – I still enjoy a sparkler myself and I’m in my thirties!
It sounds like a lovely Bonfire Night. We didn’t make it to our local display this year as the weather wasn’t very good and it was a bit too late for my boys… maybe next year! #LivingArrows
