Is it really only Monday?! I’m not sure whether I’d like to restart the week or just cancel the whole thing to be honest. I’ve had a seriously crappy start to what is meant to be a fabulous family based week.
Mr Tax Man (or his cousin Mr Credits to be more precise) got in touch earlier today to let me know that he is obviously unable to use his calculator as there’s been a monumental cock-up with our tax credits payments. Being the honest type I’ve never fancied benefit fraud and for that reason have always been very sure to keep the tax man up to date with accurate records of our finances.
Whilst I’ve always been fairly au fait with the old ‘digital abacus’ it seems that the people higher up in the HMRC offices who are paid good money to keep the books balanced are obviously unable to do their job and wouldn’t know a calculator if it smacked them in the face.
Accuracy is certainly not HMRC’s strong point as we apparently now owe £1.5k back to the tax man (which is due to their error as they accidentally continued to pay us for the past twelve months). According to the lovely letter that they kindly sent our way we are to cough up before November or else we may face the wonders of debt collection agencies and such-like. Oh Joy!
Thankfully I persuaded the very lovely chap on the telephone who’d actually been quite patient considering the amount of expletives I’d let go whilst trying to sort the situation to arrange a payment plan as I personally don’t have that kind of money just floating about in my piggy bank no matter how rainy the day might be!
We will now be paying £20 a month for the next six years which isn’t quite as bad as being paid a visit by the heavies but either way I’m still seething with whichever HMRC muppet made this mammoth mistake in the first place.
As you can imagine, it hasn’t been the best of days! The kids have obviously sensed my vexed vibe and to offer comfort smothered me with cuddles. Theres nothing quite like a squeeze with your sprogs, kids seem to just know how to suck away the sadness and no matter how crap your day may have been kids seem to have the super powers to bring a smile to your face, which is precisely what my two did earlier this afternoon and for that they are my superheroes!
Super Smiler
Super Sweety
Thanks again for reading and as always I look forward to catching up with your #LivingArrows either through your own posts or comments upon this post.

As you know I myself have been affected by tax credit cock-ups so I know how you are feeling. Snuggles with the kids sounds just like the perfect remedy for a rubbish Monday. I hope the rest of the week is a better one for you x
Well it was going alright till Evelyn fell off the bed and her head went THROUGH our wall. She’s fine, we’re fine the walls buggered !
I really hope you’ve had a better week this week! x
