I am often surprised by how alike my children are to myself. Don’t get me wrong, I’m well aware that they share my genes and spent just over nine months swimming around in my womb. However, I never really expected for either of them to look like or to act like me in any way, I’m pretty unique as are my children for that matter.
After Maisy, our beautiful but beastly basset brought me half a mangled slipper, I splashed out and treated myself to a new pair of slippers. Said slippers arrived through the post earlier this week and as nothing seems to be precious in this house, within an hour of them arriving E had already laid claim to my fluffy foot warmers. She proudly stomped into the bathroom, strutting her stuff in my slippers whilst giggling like a hyena on a sugar rush. It was then, right there in that moment that I saw myself in E; her beautiful red hair, her cheeky little grin and her obvious love towards footwear.
On the other hand, I’ve known for some time that J and I share a fair few characteristics. He and I are rather particular in the way that we do things, we both wear our hearts on our sleeves and are easily upset by the ‘small stuff’. As for appearance; J and I both have freckles and cupid shaped lips, he and I also share a passion for computing, gaming and geeky side of life. We also share a deep love for animals and adore our basset Maisy despite the fact that she spends her spare time chewing, sucking and generally shredding our personal belongings.
As I’ve said a million times over, my children are my World. Not only are they my World but they share a huge part of me. If there is ever anyway to learn to love yourself, it’s most certainly through seeing your personal qualities, habits, preferences, personality and parts of your appearance reflected through your children.
I adore my kids and I love the fact that whilst they may share a few similarities to myself, they have such beautiful and unique personalities which continue to develop and grow as each day passes by.
Thanks for reading and as always I look forward to catching up with your #LivingArrows either through your own posts or comments upon this post.
