With the summer holidays just over a week away, the kids and I are now on countdown. We’ve already enjoyed a month or more of super sunshine and we are now revved up and ready for routine to fly from the window.
I’m no longer pushing J nor E to sit and work upon reading, writing or maths during the evenings, instead I’ve given them free time to enjoy being outdoors and to make the best of the sunshine (before the rain arrives come the moment school shuts for the summer).
I finally ordered and received two new sun-loungers which have since been placed upon the decking. Said sun-loungers arrived in a rather large cardboard box which inevitably lead to hours of play for the children.
Our kids may have shelves stacked high with toys and games galore but give them an empty cardboard box and they will spend forever and day playing imaginatively with next to no squabbling. The kids magically transformed a simple, cardboard box into a secret den, a treasure box, a boat, a car, a rocket ship, a house and all kinds of interesting ideas.
Each of them then took part in a box race around the garden before eventually breaking the box apart and coming inside for drinks and supper before bed.
The Magical Box
Our kids tend to go through phases when it comes to films, they will find something which they enjoy and we then suffer weeks or sometimes months watching said film almost on repeat.
E spent the best part of a year watching Disney’s Frozen on almost a daily basis, don’t get me wrong I don’t mind Disney but I was more than ready to ‘let it go’!
After watching ‘The Greatest Showman’ at their Nana and Grandad’s house, the kids somehow twisted my arm into buying our own copy through Sky. Whilst I’m not a huge fan of musicals, this film is entirely different as I adore the music and like the kids, could watch this film over and over a thousand times and still enjoy each and every moment.
It’s certainly entertaining, if not for the music or the storyline then simply watching E stood dancing and singing along is enough to keep me amused. Not only are the kids mad about this movie, but I too have fallen for this fantastic film – Hugh Jackman may well be an ‘X Man’ but as far as I’m concerned he’s now my ring master and I could watch him for hours on end!
