#LivingArrows – Homeschooling 12/52 (2020)

Due to the recent coronavirus (covid 19) outbreak, the schools here in the UK officially shut on Friday for what could be for the foreseeable.

We are quite lucky in that I am a qualified and experienced teacher, thus homeschooling is no ‘biggy’. In fact, the kids were so excited to start working from home this morning, that if it weren’t for the kids’ social and our financial requirements, I’d quite consider keeping it this way.

Luckily we aren’t completely ‘stuck inside’ as we have a large-ish garden, the kids are therefore able to play out and to enjoy the fresh spring air in-between their learning. Today, for example, the children have done reading comprehension, spelling, then played out for an hour before continuing with arithmetic, art, and baking bread.

I completely understand how frustrating it must feel to be ‘stuck in the house’ as I too would really like to be able to ‘nip out’ and to see (and to support) my folks at some point. Given that I was suffering from a high-temperature and aches and pains last week, this simply isn’t an option at present. We have however been communicating via video-chat and although it isn’t quite the same, we as a society are so rich in technology that we must appreciate what we have and what we are able to do from a distance.

Despite being ‘on lockdown’ the kids understand and respect the need to remain at home and I am really proud of how they are dealing with the situation.

Thanks for reading and as always I look forward to catching up with your #LivingArrows either through your own posts or comments upon this post.

That’s really great for the kids to be able us use your experience teaching. It feels quite surreal and I don’t think we will ever forget 2020 #livingarrows
