March is a month of transformation as the clocks spring forward, the lighter nights arrive, fields are filled with lambs, and the hedgerows are painted yellow with delightful daffodils swaying like cheerleaders waving pom poms as they wave us into spring. March has been a busy month as it seems that we’ve squeezed every appointment and activity possible into the past however many weeks and though it’s been manageable and enjoyable, it’s also been rather exhausting for us all. So without any further waffle, here are a few of my #LittleLoves and memories that made during March 2023.
Read
Though I made a fantastic start to the year in terms of reading, that seems to have ebbed off over March. As always, I’ve read with the kids (E has just finished her third Harry Potter book and J is currently wading his way through a book that he was given for Christmas) but I’ve just been far too busy for books myself which is a shame.
Watched
My husband and I have enjoyed a couple of nights ‘up North’ this month as we went to watch the internet sensation comedian Gary Meikle in Carlisle. It was the third time we’d seen him live and though it was, as expected, a barrel of laughs, my husband and I were both stifling yawns as we were exhausted following an epic week at work. Lesson learned – now that we are heading into our forties we must only book things for weekends whilst working in the future as we can’t quite hack the pace anymore.
In terms of television, we’ve just finished watching the final season of Netflix’s ‘You’ which was a riveting though rather disturbing program in places and is apparently lined up for a fifth and final series which we are now both holding out for.
Heard
We’ve recently spent a weekend in Scotland as we traveled to Edinburgh where we saw Tori Amos play live at the Queen’s Hall. We were incredibly lucky to watch her play live on the very first night of her current tour and even luckier to attend the event in an old church as it was the most intimate concert location that I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching her play in.
Made
I haven’t really had the time for baking or making much this month. We’ve been entirely focused on finishing E’s bedroom (which is thankfully now complete) though we have made plenty of memories in March that I’ll treasure forever. Though I don’t like leaving my kids at home as it’s not our parenting style, my in-laws very kindly cared for J &E as Paul and I spent some much-needed time out together for a romantic weekend in the stunning city of Edinburgh.
As a couple, it’s not often that we get to go away and if we do it’s only ever for the evening thus it felt rather alien to have a hotel stay and time for just the two of us. Simple things like sitting in a cafe and enjoying a bite to eat, walking around the shops, and visiting a couple of tourist attractions (such as the castle) together were just lovely as we haven’t done that ‘just the two of us’ for thirteen years or more. Saying that we spent most of our time commenting on how much we missed the kids and how they’d love certain parts of the city for whatever reasons so we’ll stick to family getaways in the future!
Wore
It may well be spring and the lighter nights may have arrived but the temperatures haven’t really changed all that much, thus I’m still living day-to-day in jeans, jumpers, and my trusty winter boots. Here’s hoping that the sunshine makes an appearance for Easter so the kids can ‘egg hunt’ in the warmth.
And Lastly
After almost two years of struggling with chunky plastic molds, metal hooks, rubber bands, and endless trips to the orthodontist, our son J finally had his braces removed and he is now free to munch, chew, and chomp all that he fancies. As planned, we celebrated with steak and chips which he devoured and has continued to request throughout the month.
