Happy New Year and welcome to this month’s #LittleLoves post, which is part of a series that you are very welcome to join. Whilst January has been a bit of a wet, windy, and wild month in terms of the weather, we’ve tried our best to stay dry, warm, and cosey shielded away from the worst of it. Here are a few of my #LittleLoves from the past month whilst I’ve been ‘hermiting’ indoors…
Read
The Sunday Times will forever be associated with memories of my late Father, it was the one newspaper that he insisted on having every week without fail and despite it being a seriously chunky monkey in terms of reading, he always made sure to get through each and every page whilst instilling himself with the latest news and information on anything and everything. My Dad would often recommend music, art, and books that he’d seen mentioned in The Times, and though I tend to take my news from the likes of my BBC News app rather than a physical newspaper, I still look up the Times latest reviews and recommendations when it comes to selecting entertainment such as reading. This month, therefore, I ordered myself a copy of The Sunday Times bestseller ‘The Lost Bookshop‘ by Evie Woods. I’m only three chapters in but already I’m hooked.
Watched
January has been a somewhat nostalgic month in terms of television as the BBC revived the fitness-fuelled ‘Gladiators‘ bringing it back from the naughty nineties where some may say it should have remained and despite the stretched-out, glittery, lycra bodysuits and cringe-worthy amateur dramatics it’s still a very lovable and easy weekend watch. Paul and I have also been watching the latest series of ‘Call The Midwife‘ along with Netflix’s laugh-out-loud series ‘Loudermilk‘ based on the story of a rather cut-throat therapist guiding a group of alcoholics through some amusing and rather questionable situations.
Heard
January has been quite the comfort when it comes to music as history seems to be repeating itself as many, many songs from the seventies, eighties, and nineties seem to have found their way back into the charts whether that be via a remix or a rerelease. Either way, you cannot beat the comfort that some of these classics bring despite a few songs being incredibly cheesy even back in their day during their first release!
I’ve enjoyed listening to the likes of Campbell & Alcemist’s remake of ‘Would You? (Go To Bed With Me)’ and Tiesto’s take on Tears For Fears ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’. Old-school music really does hold a sense of nostalgia and comfort that I find difficult to describe.
Made
Other than a couple of batches of sticky toffee pudding, flapjack, and cheese straws I’ve not made a huge amount this month. January hasn’t felt all that creative although I did experiment with my new Cosari Air Fryer and discovered that I can now make the most perfectly cooked curried potatoes in less than thirty minutes!
Wore
With the endless storms and miserable weather that we’ve been enduring like most sensible people, I’ve spent the majority of January swaddled up in a combination of jeans, jumpers, hats, scarves, and my new Oodie. I did however purchase a new ‘double bobble’ hat to keep my ears warm when out and about as my beloved grey hat was becoming a little bit weathered and worn. Before you say it, I don’t care how daft a ‘double bobble’ hat looks – I think they are super cute and the closest thing to Mickey/ Minnie ears that I’ll get the chance to wear here in the UK.
And Lastly
After almost three months of struggling with both my physical health and wellbeing, I am finally starting to feel a little bit better and a little brighter so am hoping to take some baby steps back into the land of normality at some point soon. I’m very aware that I need to take things a lot easier and a lot slower than I once did BUT I’ve got my fingers firmly crossed that things will get better in the next few weeks, months, and generally over time.
First things first, I’ve learned a serious lesson in the importance of self-care and will aim to prioritise this in the future. I must must MUST remember to place the oxygen mask over my own face before tending to others from now on…
Thanks for reading my #LittleLoves post, I look forward to catching up and reading through your #LittleLoves posts
