So here it is, the final Friday of December 2022. Another year has passed us by and whilst I’d love to tell you that it’s been a good one, I’m still trying to process and make sense of much of it.
Whilst I’m a fan of even numbers (I’m sure I have some form of OCD) I can’t say likewise for the years which have been ‘even’ in number. Let’s take 2020 for example; it was meant to be the year of clarity, clear vision, and Worldwide success yet we all know how that ended… 2022 was similar in some respects only with fewer masks or restrictions.
On a lighter, more positive note, here are a few of my #LittleLoves from the past month. Thank goodness December is the final month of the year and I can finally wash my hands of what was a dreary, draining, and difficult year.
Read
I was spoilt this Christmas with bath bombs, chocolates, clothes, stationery, and two brand-new Adam Silvera books, one of which I’m already halfway through reading. ‘They Both Die At The End‘ is currently an internet/ TikTok sensation and rightly so as it’s quite a riveting read thus I’m relieved to have Adam’s second book ‘The First To Die At The End’ which I plan on reading next.
Watched
My husband finally fitted a Firestick into our living room television so we are now able to access all the on-demand shows which have aired throughout Christmas. We have therefore spent the past week enjoying a range of festive shows such as Ghosts, The Cleaner, The Boy The Mole The Fox and the Horse, and the latest episode of Motherland.
The kids have spent time enjoying festive films such as The Grinch, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Jingle All The Way, The Snowman & The SnowDog, and numerous Disney films. The television has taken a real hammering this month and we’ve still got the latest episodes of Happy Valley, Mrs Browns Boys, and Call The Midwife to watch at some point…
Heard
As I said above, I was spoilt by my husband this Christmas as not only did he gift me piles of books, stationery, cosmetics, and smellies but he also gave me a super comfy headband that features a wired (as I refuse to wear Bluetooth due to potential health risks) set of headphones so I’m now able to listen to Music in comfort whilst drifting off to sleep.
Like most people, I’ve spent the majority of December having to endure the dreaded Christmas music. Following Maxi Jazz’s passing earlier this month, I spent time reminiscing over nineties dance Music. This later resulted in our kitchen transforming into a makeshift nightclub on Christmas Eve as my family and I found ourselves grooving and moving to the likes of Insomnia, along with various other nineties classics.
Made
Unlike most years where I spend at least two hours standing with an electric hand-whisk bashing the bejeebus out of endless egg whites and yolks, this year I had my Kitchen Aid at the ready, and low and behold Delia’s ‘Squidgy Chocolate Log‘ was ‘a piece of cake’ (only without the flour of course)!
Alongside pulling off what was a serious success of a Christmas dinner, we’ve also baked an endless realm of traditional festive favourites including mince pies, jam tarts, cookies, and even sausage rolls. Our sideboard has been a constant buffet of unhealthy seasonal snacks but that’s what Christmas is all about.
Wore
We’ve been wrapping up warm this winter – it was minus seven degrees celsius earlier this month and whilst I’m aware that’s a drop in the ocean compared to the USA at present, it was cold enough to warrant buying a couple of new jumpers to keep me covered and cosey. I’ve spent most days tucked up in jeans, long-sleeved vests, and various wooly jumpers, including this rather gorgeous green sweater that I ordered and received earlier this month.
And Lastly
December is always a busy month, especially for the kids during that final week before the holidays. Whilst E was dazzling us all on stage with her school show, tap dancing, and ballet dancing, poor J on the other hand came down with strep A and thus had to call it quits slightly earlier than anticipated. Still, we made it to the holidays and somehow got through Christmas in one piece which I deem not only a success but a flipping miracle!
Thanks again for reading my blog and I hope that you enjoyed this month’s #LittleLoves. If you fancy sharing some of your own #LittleLoves, then why not join in either through your own blog post or by leaving a comment below, I would love to hear what your #LittleLoves might be.
