So here we are, it’s the final Friday in August already – the summer holidays have sure flown by fast! I for one am still clinging to the final days that August has to offer as I don’t feel quite ready to switch the alarm back on and return to the regular routine just yet… So without any further waffle, here are a few of my #LittleLoves from the past month.
Read
Having watched and very much enjoyed the first series of Heartstopper on Netflix, I then ordered the books online for my son J to read. Upon arrival, I flicked through the first couple of pages and sure enough, I spent the following read reading through the entire series.
This beautiful cartoon-style series from Alice Oseman addresses a number of teenage traumas and identity issues which make for a riveting and very relevant read.
Watched
Having entertained an engineer and my husband for an afternoon as they unsuccessfully attempted to reconnect my Sky cables, I’ve since saved a small fortune and have ditched Sky television. To be fair, I wasn’t really using nor watching much of Sky television as we tend to stream our shows these days including this month’s Netflix binge watches ‘Surviving Death‘, ‘100 Humans‘, and the hilariously funny yet rather surreal ‘Living With Yourself‘.
Heard
Having spent the past month having my ears assaulted by the Zombies 3 soundtrack, I’ve taken solace in listening to the songs and sounds from my own childhood – the awesome eighties.
Made
Whilst I’m certainly far from a ‘pro’ when it comes to baking cakes, each and every year the kids put in their birthday requests for particular cakes. This year E had her heart set on a pink fondant, four-tiered, chocolate, magical Harry Potter cake which after four or five hours of hard graft at the kitchen counter I somehow managed to pull out of the bag (or should I say oven?). It wasn’t perfect but it was at least better than Hagrids attempt…
Wore
With temperatures reaching almost forty degrees in the UK, I was brutally forced from my comfortable and rather casual clothes (jeans and a jumper) into lighter and much shorter layers. Though I’m not keen on getting my legs out, it was just too hot for anything other than dresses or shorts and even the flip-flops got thrown to one side for an afternoon in favour of iced water.
And Lastly
Though we’ve not been abroad as of yet (the last time we travelled overseas was back in 2019 prior to the pandemic) we’ve certainly travelled and have made the most of the summer holidays. Earlier this month we went on a four-day trip to Derby where we visited family and spent two days in Alton Towers Resort. Whilst there, we were blessed with beautiful sunshine which made for ideal ‘rollercoaster riding’ weather.
Thanks again for reading my blog and I hope that you enjoyed this month’s #LittleLoves. If you fancy sharing some of your own #LittleLoves, then why not join in either through your own blog post or by leaving a comment below, I would love to hear what your #LittleLoves might be.
