So here we are at the end of March already and as always, I’ve sifted through my snapshots of the month gone by and have come up with my ‘top ten highlights’ from the past however many weeks to share some of the things that I have #LikedandLoved throughout the month.
Brace Yourself
After almost two years of struggling with endless orthodontic appointments, J finally had the metal removed from his mouth and he is now brace-free (apart from night times when he’s to wear a lifelong retainer) and he couldn’t be happier as he is now able to chew and chomp as much sweets and steak as he fancies risk-free.
World Book Day
Though I planned in advance and purchased our gorgeous little girl a super snazzy Mad Hatters outfit for World Book Day, it turned out that her class was to go to school wearing pajamas and slippers for the day thus my money was wasted. Still, she had a fantastic time with her friends and I’ve learned a lesson – stop being so blinking organised!
Mothers Day
Though it was a really tough one emotionally, my amazing kids ensured that I got through this years Mother’s Day in one piece and they spoilt me rotten with cards, flowers, chocolates, and a new diary in which I can plan and organise their endless activities within.
Hogwarts Legacy
Having completed E’s Harry Potter bedroom transformation, the kids were keen on downloading and playing the Hogwarts Legacy game. Whilst we’d planned on downloading and sharing one copy as a family, we then found a discount code online thus the kids were given a copy of the latest hit game each to play. J has practically completed the game as he’s a gaming wizard (pardon the pun) whilst Paul, myself, and E are still busy learning various spells and completing various quests to catch up.
Changing Rooms
Having finished painting, decorating, and furnishing E’s Harry Potter-themed bedroom, we finally had the room carpeted in a glorious gold thus completing our project. E is delighted with the result and I must say, it looks so much more spacious and grown up with the new colour scheme and furniture.
A giggle with Gary Meikle
Paul and I enjoyed an evening out in Carlisle where we watched Gary Meikle live for a third time. It was, as always, a giggle but Paul and I had been burning the candle at both ends and quite possibly in the middle also as we were so exhausted we spent most of the night stifling yawns whilst trying to wake ourselves up for the drive home. In future, we will stick to booking comedy events and concerts over weekends where possible as I suspect that now we are heading into our forties we can’t quite hack the pace as we once did.
Set In Stone
After two and a half years, my late Father’s headstone was finally fitted into its rightful place, and whilst this stirred up some incredibly difficult emotions for me, I’m pleased with the stone and I’m just grateful that my Dad has finally switched from a temporary plastic plaque to a beautiful tribute to what was his life. He will be forever missed.
Springing Forward
After what felt like a never-ending Winter, spring has finally arrived. The clocks have sprung forward (ripping an hour from our weekend’s slumber) and the lighter nights are finally here.
Edinburgh
It’s not often if at all that my husband and I spend time out together without the kids in tow. This weekend however we enjoyed a romantic weekend in Edinburgh. It was great to get out, to spend some time just the two of us, and to see the stunning Scottish city. The last time I went to Edinburgh I was a teenager and I obviously didn’t pay all that much attention as this time around I found the sights and scenery simply stunning. I’ve got to say, I think the city stole my heart!
Tori Amos
Whilst in Edinburgh Paul and I spent an evening at the Queen’s Hall, an old church, where we watched Tori Amos play live for the first night of her Ocean to Ocean 2023 tour. It was the smallest, most intimate venue in which I’ve ever seen Tori play, I only wish that I could have had the chance to meet her after the gig but sadly due to the rising covid cases this wasn’t possible. Still, it was an amazing night and we couldn’t have got closer if we’d tried (as you can probably tell from the above picture).
