I don’t mean to come across as a negative Nancy but I’m so relieved that January is finally done, dusted and swept under the carpet for another year. It’s never been one of my favoured months, what with the sudden removal of the twinkly lights following Christmas, and the dark, dank weather – I am not a winter woman! With that said, here are some of the things that I have LikedandLoved throughout the past thirty-one days.
Happy New Year
We started the new year with a bang as we stayed at my Mum’s for the night to celebrate (into the early hours) the new year’s festivities. Though we were a little woolly around the edges following what was an incredibly late night, it was well worth the lack of sleep. We had a great night/ morning playing board and card games, sharing a beautiful buffet, knocking back a few drinks and taking turns on the karaoke followed by watching the fireworks in the square and enjoying a few hours of new years television before eventually heading to bed.
Swish Stationery
If there’s one thing that I love about the new year, it has to be all the swish new stationery whether it be notebooks, planners, calendars, diaries, journal’s or in my case all of the above…
The Big Screen
We’ve been in need of a new television for quite some time now. Though our trusty 42″ LG had stood the test of time (fourteen years to be precise), it was beginning to struggle with both sound and power issues thus we hit the January sales and finally bit the bullet and ordered ourselves a brand new sixty-five inch Samsung television which has since arrived and has pride of place in our living room.
J’s Double Jabbed
At last, J (our twelve-year-old son) finally became fully vaccinated as he received his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Whilst my eight-year-old daughter cries at the sheer thought of an injection, J thankfully wasn’t in the slightest bit bothered by the idea of a needle – thank goodness for that!
Winter Warmers – Pyjama Perfection
I was spoilt rotten at Christmas, especially by my in-laws who bought me a huge pack of photo frames (which I’m hoping to put together once we decorate our living room) along with numerous other gifts including a pair of rather snazzy Avon pyjamas which as it turns out are the comfiest PJs I’ve ever known. Having felt the quality and the comfort of these pyjamas, I decided to treat myself whilst it’s still winter and to order a couple more pairs which have since arrived and I seem to be spending way too much time wearing.
Cosy In My New Coat
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but it’s cold out there, especially if you happen to have purchased yourself a fashion puffer jacket rather than a practical, fleece-lined, water-resistant puffer jacket such as the above coat which I’ve just replaced said fashion jacket with. It may well have cost me six times the amount of the original jacket I purchased two years back but from the moment I put it on, the difference in quality was plainly obvious to see and feel.
Game Girl
Having spent the past two years playing and completing the majority of Animal Crossing New Horizons on my Nintendo Switch, I was elated to hear that an add-on had been made available for purchase. I couldn’t wait to download the latest Happy Home Paradise DLC and get to grips with the game.
I also ordered and received the physical copy of Disney’s Magical World 2 (The Enchanted Edition) which I’m dipping in and out of now and then. I don’t care whether both of the above happen to be kids games, I may be thirty-eight but I’m a big kid at heart!
Contain Yourself
I never thought I’d say it but I seem to be obsessed with Tupperware of late – if there’s one thing I love more than a tidy house it’s canny kitchen organisation. This month I ordered a number of containers and organisation systems to help things a little tidier in my kitchen thus my pantry contents are now neatly organised into various containers and my eggs are now lined up safely in their very own drawer.
The Mind Game
What better after a long day than a steaming hot cup of coffee, a slice of something sweet and a card game to keep the mind occupied? Paul, J and I have enjoyed playing The Mind, a numerical team-based card game that I was given for Christmas, numerous times over the past few weeks and despite playing this over and over it still hasn’t lost its charm.
Apple Addiction
According to our O2 account, Paul and I are shortly due to upgrade our phones though having checked the options, the contracts, and the prices on offer, both Paul and I have decided to ditch our contracts in favour of buying a phone outright. Though the initial outlay is incredibly expensive (should you happen to be buying an iPhone 13 Pro Max) buying directly from Apple has actually saved us both around £500 in the long run. Never again will I agree to a thirty-six-month contract, three years is just too long to wait for an upgrade!
I do so love a new phone, I realise the novelty soon wears off but it’s such a great feeling to have a new device!
