Here we are at the end of January, the nights are beginning to lengthen as Spring edges ever closer yet the weather is still brass blumming monkeys as always for this time of year.
I feel as if I haven’t achieved a huge amount throughout January, that said there has been plenty to ‘Like and love’ throughout the month some of which I’ve listed below.
New Furniture
Paul and I have been meaning to update the living room furniture for some time now, having managed to persuade our daughter E to allow us to move her beloved kitchen into her play hut we then had the space available to do so.
I spent quite some time trawling through the internet finding matching furniture for a reasonable price which we then travelled here, there and everywhere to collect. We then rejigged the living room moving things around a little and as a result we now have a rather adult area to sit and to relax.
New Hair
Earlier this week I had the chance to pay a visit to my local hair dresser for a re-colour and re-style. It feels like forever since I’ve had my hair cut and I’m really pleased with the results.
Signing Up For Supply
Now that E seems settled and happy in her new School I’ve finally had the chance to look into my future career prospects. I’ve always fancied returning to the classroom as a Teacher and earlier this month took the plunge by signing up with a Supply agency. I’m yet to receive any work but have at least completed a couple of courses and am dipping my toes back in the waters of Education.
Cards Against Humanity
When we have the time Paul and I rather enjoy a game of ‘Cards Against Humanity‘. I know, it’s not exactly kind nor clever but it keeps us amused after we’ve had a few to drink. Over the years I’ve built a rather impressive pack which I finally completed a fortnight ago with the final two expansion packs thanks to the January sales. Obviously they’ve now released further updates which I have added to my wish list for next Christmas…
The Holidays Booked
Each year Paul and I like to take the kids abroad and whilst this stretches our finances somewhat we make every effort to find the best deals and prices for our budget. I recently came across a rather attractive offer for a week in a four star, all-inclusive hotel situated right by the beach near the centre of Lloret De Mar which I have since booked. That gives us all a little something to look forward to for the summer, that and an incentive for myself to get ‘beach ready’ before August.
Denim Dreams
Given that I’m such a fan of denim dungaree dresses I thought I ought to look into the idea of furthering my denim fad by buying some skirts and a jacket to go alongside the look.
I then found this rather marvellous mini skirt which I ordered and received, that and a denim jacket which I’m yet to wear but am sure will do so shortly. It’s been a hell of a long time since I’ve worn a skirt, especially of the mini variety. I have to say though with my recent weight loss I didn’t look half bad!
Panto
For the past five or six years my Father has taken part (or played a part should I say) in the local Panto. Each and every year my children and I go along to watch said Panto booing and cheering the cast along. This year my Dad played the part of ‘Corporal Pig’, a rather soft-hearted (and soft in the head) villain who helps to save Rapunzel from the life time of misery and woe.
As always the Panto was a success thanks the cast and crew whom did a fabulous job. We certainly had a fantastic time and will be sure to return next year.
Alexa
For Christmas Paul very kindly bought me a rather posh DAB alarm clock radio for my bedside table which despite looking the bizz didn’t actually work in our bedroom due to lack of reception. Having looked online for further options we decided to bite the bullet and to order ourselves an ‘Alexa Echo Dot‘ which has since transformed our household as we are now able to ‘shout out’ whenever and whatever we fancy listening to.
E’s Reading!
Over the past few months E has been bringing home a range of reading books which we have sat and worked together to read. E has made massive improvements in her reading recently and is now able to recognise and read a wide range of words. I am so so proud of our little lady, she is coming on leaps and bounds and seems to love learning!
New Shoes To Boot
I swear my children grow faster than weeds, especially when it comes to their feet! We recently discovered that J was struggling to squeeze his feet into his two month old converse trainers. Having measured his feet it became clear that our son has once again shot up overnight and given that we were then ordering him yet another new pair of shoes we felt it only right to order E a pair of winter boots despite her feet being the same size as back in Autumn.
Both J & E now have a pair of new shoes each, I’m hoping that give it a month or two and it may be my turn for new trotters!
