February has very quickly come to a close and though it’s the shortest month of the year it seems to have been the busiest so far for us. Here are a few of the things that we have #LikedandLoved throughout the past twenty-odd days.
Eighteen Years Together
Paul and I celebrated eighteen years together this month. It really doesn’t feel like eighteen years since we went out on our first date but time obviously flies when you’re having fun.
Valentines Day
As usual, Paul and I celebrated Valentine’s Day a day earlier than most (as it merges with our anniversary). We then exchanged the statutory cards and gifts and enjoyed a beautiful home-cooked meal together before relaxing with Netflix and some snacks.
Scrummy Shrove Tuesday
Whilst J isn’t keen on pancakes he’s most definitely a fan of Yorkshire puddings which, let’s face it, are essentially chunky pancakes. We, therefore, threw together our annual pancake batter and J tucked into his Yorkshires with sausages and gravy whilst the rest of us got tossing to fry up some scrummy pancakes.
Half Term Holidays
The half-term holidays finally arrived and despite us coming down with the February flu we managed to get plenty done. Paul was busy working for the first half of the week although following that we managed to squeeze in an evening enjoying a catch-up and a takeaway with the family, a day out for the kids, a complete bedroom decoration transformation for our little lady, and we even snuck in a few hours of relaxation before the week came to a close.
Jump Maniax
Way back when the kids were little we’d regularly take them out to soft-play to burn off some energy whilst they had fun on the slides, trampolines, bouncy castles, or rolling around in the various germs and grime that resided in the dreaded ball pools. Now the kids are older there’s not as much for them to do when it comes to indoor play thus we opted to give soft-play a second chance and took them to Jump Maniax, a local-ish Ninja Warrior course where they could run riot, get sweaty, possibly break a few bones (which thankfully they didn’t!), whilst making some memories and having fun as a family.
Giving Golf A Go
We’ve been meaning to take J to play golf for years now but we’ve never had the chance nor the equipment to do so. Whilst on our half-term day trip out we came across an awesome indoor mini-golf course and there was no holding us back.
With our golf clubs, golf balls, and a scorecard at the ready we made our way around the rather challenging course, and what fun it was! J was such an amazing big brother, he consistently helped E (as she is left-handed and struggled from time to time) and very kindly doctored her score to make things a little fairer. I couldn’t have been prouder of him, he’s growing into such a beautiful, caring, kind young man, and not only did he win my heart that afternoon, he also won the game (which was very well deserved).
Brilliant Bowling
Following what became a rather heated and hilarious game of golf we made our way to the bowling alley and after setting ourselves up with the correct shoes, bowling balls, and a round of drinks, milkshakes, and ice creams we set about showing the kids ‘how it’s done’ on the bowling alley.
Despite being six-foot-something tall, J was a natural bowler. He swooped down for every shot angling the ball almost perfectly each and every time. E meanwhile was happily playing using a metal bowling shoot whilst the bumpers remained firmly ‘up’ for each and every turn she took. Though I’m well aware that e had a rather unfair advantage, J understood the aim of the game and was happy to let his sister take the lead and beat us all hands down (well bumpers up technically speaking…).
Super Scentsy
After years of burning sooty Yankee Candles, I finally found a cleaner, fresher, and far easier option thanks to my good friend Jen who introduced me to the world of Scentsy wax warmers. After being handed a ‘whiff bag’ which the kids and I spent literally hours sniffing to determine some scents we’d like for around the house I have gained not one but three wax warmers, all of which are now plugged in and filled with various Scentsy scents. As a result, there’s no longer any soot in the air (or up the back of my chimney breast) and my house no longer smells of wet dog or musky hound. Instead, it smells of tropical peach and vanilla and I’m officially a Scentsy addict.
Fabulous Five
Our beloved and very beautiful basset hound Maisy turned the grand age of five this month. Being a dog, she didn’t seem to care nor understand that it was her special day but she was more than happy to polish off a brand-new bone and enjoy a few treats along the way.
Potter-Themed Painting & Incredible IKEA Solutions
For those of you that know my daughter, you’ll be well aware that she was all about pink, glittery, fluffy, cutesy, bunny-themed anything when it came to her toys, clothes, and of course her bedroom which until this month had bright-pink painted walls, a pink glittery carpet, and pink EVERYTHING in terms of furniture and accessories.
E is growing up far too fast and she’s very sadly no longer the pink princess that she once was. These days she’s potty about Potter, whacky about Wednesday (of the Addams variety), and after months of moaning about her bedroom Paul and I finally got around to ordering and building new furniture then painting and redecorating her bedroom.
Whilst we are yet to add carpet (which is being measured up and ordered within the next week), curtains (which are in the post as I write this), to recover her cushions in a gold Harry Potter-themed fabric, and to complete the room with a Gryffindor gaming chair, everything else is just about done needless to say our daughter is delighted.
