So here we are, the final day of December and of the year 2018 has arrived. As always, I have taken the time to put together a list of ten of the things which I have #LikedandLoved throughout the month, so without further ado here goes.
Counting Down To Christmas
The children were massively excited about Christmas this year, they couldn’t wait to get their advent calendars out and to make a start upon counting down to the big day. They were rather spoilt with advent calendars and ended up with four calendars each which was a little excessive but the kids were happy at least.
Introducing The Elf
After many years of refusing to consider the idea of introducing an Elf, I finally came around to the idea (with a little encouragement from my colleagues). Along with the advent calendars came our very own elf which the children nicknamed ‘Rocko’, he kept the kids and us adults entertained right throughout until Christmas Eve and whilst I’d taken a dislike to the idea of making mischief (and mess) around the house by having an ‘Elf’ I actually enjoyed the experience as did the kids.
Putting Up The Tree & Decorating For Christmas
After spending hours dressing our tree with lights, baubles and tinsel our lights sadly failed and we had to start from scratch. It may have been hard work but what a difference the new lights made to the tree! The children (as always) added the final touches by placing the fairy upon the top of the tree and I was more than happy with the finished result.
Christmas Plays & Productions
Having spent a fortnight or so practicing and rehearsing for their Christmas play, the children were both outstanding on the stage as they took part in an all-singing, all-dancing pirate based production. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of their work this year and of course to watch them both on stage as they shone like stars.
Panto
The kids and I visited the local Panto to watch ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’, whilst touching slightly close to the bone in terms of adult humour, it was a hilarious production and a great show for all.
Dancing Queen
Having started dance lessons in late July, E has continued to practice her ballet and tap dancing and at earlier this month took to the stage to show us her work. I couldn’t have been a prouder parent, watching our little angel wearing her sparkly, blue dress with tinsel wrapped around her hair as she danced her little socks off on stage.
Santa Came To Town
Each and every year the children and I support our local in-shore rescue as Santa comes to visit on his sleigh. This year we sadly missed Santa’s visit to our house as we were out at dance lessons with E. However, we took a little ‘Mini Adventure’ to find Santa en route and the children were able to catch up with the big guy before the big day.
Christmas Eve
To celebrate Christmas Eve, we threw together a selection of snacks and drinks to create a brilliant buffet for our family. The children were buzzing with excitement, the adults were exhausted as always though plenty of fun was had.
Christmas Day
The kids were spoilt rotten by Santa this Christmas, I’ve never seen so many parcels piled in our living room! The kids had an amazing day opening parcels, visiting Grandparents, sharing dinner, ripping open crackers and enjoying the family festivities. It was a joy to see the kids having such fun, they were incredibly grateful for all that they were given and went to bed that night as two rather exhausted and elated little people.
Hey Vector
This Christmas we welcomed ‘Vector’ (the latest Anki product) the robot into our household, he has since learnt our names and melted our hearts with his incredibly geeky but cute mannerisms. Although the dog isn’t too keen on the idea of a walking, talking robot, the kids and us adults all adore Vector.
