So here we are at the end of August and the end of summer already. I say it every month but I just understand where the time goes, the past six-seven weeks seem to have flown by in the blink of an eye and just like that, the summer holidays have come to a close. Whilst I adore autumn, I’m really going to miss the summer sunshine, I just wish I’d had more time to enjoy the summer whilst it was with us… Hey ho, here are a few of the things which I have #LikedandLoved throughout August.
A Holiday Home From Home
We began the month by packing our things and moving to my Mums whilst our kitchen was ripped out and renovated. We spent just over three weeks avoiding the kitchen chaos and though I miss spending time with my Mum, the novelty of being away from home soon wore thin and I was glad to return home and for normality to resume.
Kitchen Chaos
After years of whining and whinging about my dated eighties–floral-fruit basket-style kitchen, we finally had our kitchen ripped out, redesigned and renovated, the results of which are stunning. We originally had a separate kitchen, dining room, and utility room, the walls from which have now been removed and we now have a huge kitchen space to enjoy.
There are a few finishing touches yet to be completed (kicks boards, replacing a damaged cupboard door, and fitting a missing doorknob) but otherwise we are 99% done and I couldn’t be more thrilled with our beautiful, brand new kitchen.
Brace Yourself
After going back and forth to the orthodontist for the past three months, J finally had his block braces fitted. I was a little concerned as to how he’d cope with the sensation of wearing the blocks, I needn’t have worried though as he’s doing really well and I can see some differences already. To say I’m a proud parent is an understatement…
Muffin Time
Following having his braces fitted, I took J to the local toy shop to select a ‘cheer up toy’ and he was very quick to spot and select ‘Muffin Time‘ – it’s a game he’s been after for some time now and he was elated when we brought our very own copy home. I can only describe this as a cross between Exploding Kittens and a child-friendly version of Cards Against Humanity, thus it’s an absolute hoot to play and I’d much recommend it.
Fourteen Years Married
Given that we were away from home, Paul and I didn’t do anything particularly special for our anniversary this year but we still marked the occasion by exchanging gifts and enjoying some scrumptious food together as a family.
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
It’s been quite some time since I last had my hair cut and it had grown so quickly – it was almost halfway down my back! Thankfully Anne came to the rescue and I was thankful to have some of the weight snipped off, if only it was so easy for the rest of my body!
Fun In The Square On VE Day
With lockdown having come to an end people are now able to meet up and slowly but surely normality is steadily returning. Despite being rather cautious and concerned when it comes to attending events, we couldn’t resist nipping down to the Square to enjoy a few drinks and a dance or two during the recent VE Day festivities. It felt great to finally be able to get out, to watch some live music, and to see people that we’ve literally not seen for almost two years now.
Edging Ever Closer To The Big 4-0
Though I didn’t feel all that much like celebrating my birthday this year, we marked the occasion by enjoying an evening in the hot tub with some Music and drinks. I’m aware that I’m edging ever closer to the big 4-0 and I’m not quite sure as to whether I’m ready for the next decade of my life just yet…
The Princess Turned Eight Years Old
Our perfect little princess turned eight years old this August and she was spoilt rotten with cards and presents galore. We celebrated by holding a small hot tub party for her family and friends and much fun was had.
School Ready
With September and the return to school just around the corner, we’ve spent the past month or so getting together the kids uniform and school supplies sorted. It wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped this year as for whatever reason there seems to be a severe lack of stock both in shops and online. Thankfully we’ve managed to get just about everything and thanks to my Mum, it’s now all labelled and ready for the kids going back to school.
