So here we are at the end of April, yet another month has flown by leading us into summer at light speed. Here are some of the things that we have #LikedandLoved during the past thirty days or so.
Fabulous Forty
Paul turned the fabulous age of forty at the beginning of the month. We celebrated with cake, balloons, a family meal and get-together, a weekend in Edinburgh, and a family day out in Manchester. He was also spoilt rotten with cards, presents, and a whole lot of love. I’m not entirely sure he’s happy with his new age bracket though I’ve assured him that it’ll be my turn next and forty is the new thirty.
A Family Feast
Though I’d originally planned a mad’en in Manchester for us adults to go party in style, Paul decided he’d prefer a quiet weekend at home with his family to celebrate his fortieth thus we did just that. We ordered a huge takeaway and stuffed ourselves silly whilst sharing beverages and banter around the table. It was an awesome evening and we came away hangover free thus it was probably a better plan than living it large in the city.
Snow Fun
We’ve been meaning to visit Manchester’s Chill Factore for some time, though with covid and numerous other issues we’ve just not had the chance. We decided to book an afternoon of ‘snow fun‘ for our family and what fun we had.
Easter Egg Hunts
The kids were spoilt rotten with eggs, chocolate, money, and sweets galore this Easter all of which were hidden around the house for them to find and collect following a lengthy Easter egg hunt which was, as always, thoroughly planned out by Paul.
Beach Days
The sun finally made an appearance this month thus we grabbed some snacks, and some toys, and made our way to the beach where we spent an afternoon sunning ourselves whilst having fun with our family. The kids (and a few of us adults) went ‘dune sledding’ followed by a couple of games of rounders, and some obligatory sandcastle building.
The Return of the Ring
The diamonds from my wedding ring sadly fell out and were lost whilst cleaning earlier this year. I took the ring back to the jewelers (this is the second time this has happened) and asked for them to replace and repair the jewels. This wasn’t an instant job and I was left without a wedding ring for almost two months thus I was delighted when the jewelers called to let me know that my ring was ready to collect earlier this month.
Movie Madness
The kids aren’t all that bothered by the cinema these days as they seem to prefer watching movies at home. I understand completely as I personally prefer the ability to press pause, nip to the toilet, grab some snacks, pour yourself a drink, or just take a break from the screen for a bit. J was however adamant that ‘The Mario Movie‘ would provide an exception to this. Though it was a little cheesy in places it was actually quite a fun watch and certainly worth a day out in the dark.
Happy Holidays
April saw us enjoy a much-needed two-week break from routine. The first week was great as we were blessed with sunshine and blue skies, the second week however was a bit wet, windy, and wild but we made the most of our time off together.
Terrific Trips
With her bags packed to the hilt (with the kitchen sink no doubt stored somewhere in her case) E was super excited to spend three days with her friends on a residential visit to a local outdoors centre. Whilst most parents seem to enjoy the peace and quiet when their little ones are off on various trips, I personally spend the entire time worrying myself sick and missing my kids when they are away. I was therefore rather thankful when the time came to finally collect our little lady from her travels. Though she’d found the food tricky and had acquired a rather nasty-looking injury on her leg, she’d had the time of her life and couldn’t wait to tell us about gill scrambling, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and all the awesome activities she’d taken part in.
Decision Time
It seems like no time since J first started senior school, yet this month saw him have to put pen to paper in order to make some rather big decisions towards his future. It felt bittersweet signing his GCSE options application, I’m so so so proud of all the progress he’s made over the past couple of years but it feels like time is moving too fast! How on earth is our little boy starting his GCSEs in September?! It’s surreal!
