So here we are at the end of April already, we are now in the final academic term of the year and have less than twelve weeks to go until the summer holidays – where the heck does time get to?! I guess time flies when you’re having fun, or busying yourself with various DIY projects, either way here are a few of the things that I have #LikedandLoved this month.
One Year To Go Until The Big 4-0
We began the month by celebrating Paul’s final thirty-something birthday with beer, burgers, and of course cake. With less than a year to go before we both turn the big four-OH (as in Oh god we are getting old), we’ve started putting together plans to celebrate our next decade.
Easter & The Egg Hunt
Though J is probably a bit on the old side for an Easter Egg Hunt, he was happy to join his sister in a rather elaborate hunt searching for clues and of course eggs in and outside of the house. As always, the kids were spoilt rotten with Easter eggs galore – I wish I’d have received as many eggs as them when I was their age!
A Trip To The Zoo
It’s been years since we last visited our local zoo and though they’d changed the entrance and a few of the paths and enclosures, it was just as good as ever. E finally got to bring her 64 Zoo Lane dreams to reality as she met a giraffe up close, meanwhile, J enjoyed an ice cream whilst watching the red pandas eating their carrot and bamboo lunch.
We spent a few hours walking around in the glorious sunshine learning about and watching the various wildlife before strolling around the shop where the kids were spoilt with souvernoirs before heading home.
Loving Our Living Room
It’s been ten years since we last decorated our living room and given the room’s hefty footfall, it was in dire need of an update and tidy up. Though we are yet to change the sofa, the lights, and the landing/ stairs carpet we have now completed the hard graft. My Mum, Paul and I spent the Easter holidays plastering/ filling, painting, wallpapering, and dressing the room and what a difference it has made – I love it!
Happy Hair Cut
It’s been almost a year since I last had my hair cut thus I was in much need of a snip, shape and style. Though I would once choose to dye and colour my hair, I’ve opted to keep things simple and to remain ‘au natural’ and I’m really pleased with the result.
Wardrobe Renewal
I spent some time this month sorting through my daughter’s wardrobe bagging up all the clothes that have any holes or no longer fit. I then set about browsing and buying various fashion items to refill and update her wardrobe, all of which have since arrived and E is enjoying modelling.
Cinema Trip
E was recently invited on a day out to celebrate one of her besties’ birthdays at MacDonald’s and the local cinema where they watched ‘The Bad Guys’. She loves spending time with her friends outside of school and it gave me great pleasure to see her smile when she arrived back off the train.
Park Play
Despite the poor weather over Easter, the kids were more than happy playing at the park whilst wrapped up warm. Though J is fast approaching his teenage years and probably not all that bothered about playing in and on the park these days, he’s more than happy to entertain and encourage his little sister to do so. He is so incredibly patient and loving towards E and I both adore and admire this quality in him.
Yay For York
April saw E journey off to York on a three-day residential with her class friends. Understandably, she was rather nervous, anxious and excited as it was the first time that she’d been away from her family overnight. After packing her case and spending the past three days worried sick about my little lady, I’m pleased to report that she is now home and had the time of her life.
Florida Bound
With Paul and I turning forty next year, we’ve spent the past couple of months discussing ideas on how we may celebrate this event. Though we’d originally considered having a few days away just the two of us in Amsterdam, we decided we’d prefer to celebrate as a family and to do something special for everyone.
After scouring the internet for what felt like forever searching for tips, tricks, and advice upon visiting and travelling to Florida, we’ve now booked what we hope will be the trip of a lifetime for 2023.
