My Top Five Festive Tunes – Hits For The Holidays

Whilst Christmas is just around the corner (crikey it’s less than ten days away now!) I’m feeling far from festive at present. I’m chocka-block with cold and am totally and utterly run down. I’ve spent the past three weeks suffering with an endless bout of bugs and quite frankly I’m fed up with myself.

To lift my spirits and to get me back onto the festive bandwagon, I’ve asked Alexa to play me a range of ‘holiday hits’. If there’s one way (or anyway at all for that matter) to pull me through, it’s almost always through the media of Music. As Alexa began entertaining me with her marvellous Music, it got me thinking about the Music which we listen to each year, especially those tunes which have meaning or a ‘feel good factor’ thus will be replayed over time. I myself have a number of festive favourites, here are my top five.

My Top Five Festive Tunes - Hits For The Holidays
Rockin Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee

This song takes me back to the very first time I watched Home Alone. I laughed my socks off at Kevin’s elaborate efforts to con the con’s into believing his house was filled with people having a party.

Fairytale of New York – The Pogues

I’m not sure whether it’s the sheer filth factor of this song or the fact that Paul and I sing along at full blast to this beauty. One things for sure, you cannot beat belting out this tune at the top of your voice for the sheer fun of it.

Merry Christmas Everyone – Shakin Stevens

A feel-good festive favourite, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without this classic, winter wonder!

Christmas Baby Please Come Home – Darlene Love

I’ve probably overdosed on the seasonal ads this year simply to seek out this sensational song. Whilst Asda may have made their millions by making the most of this Christmas classic, I for one cannot get enough of this tune.

Driving Home For Christmas – Chris Rea

Back in the day when I drove three hours up the motorway to come home for Christmas, I’d often stick the seasonal songs on the CD player and this one would always raise a smile, even through the torturous traffic jams and the mayhem of the M6.

So there you have it, my five festive favourites. I wouldn’t say that they are in any particular order, I like them all equally. I’d love to hear what your festive favourites may be, feel free to add a comment below or to drop me an email.
