The Long And Short Of It

With trying to cut costs I’ve somehow ended up putting myself bottom of the pile once again (as us Mum’s tend to do) and after putting off general upkeep for a few months I am beginning to feel like the dreary old wife in much need of an update.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve not gone totally feral and grown a full-blown moustache and a mono brow, thing’s aren’t that bad yet. I’ve withheld from splashing the cash on luxuries such as new makeup, hair cuts, massages or such like and it’s been that long now that it’s becoming fairly apparent.

If I were to compare myself to lets say an IPhone because you all know I’m a total geek right?  I would be one of the older models which despite having a massive crack down the screen and running at a snail’s pace due to its old age and lack of charge still functions and is at least worth throwing in the glove compartment as a spare for emergencies.

The Long And Short Of It

In other words I am feeling ever so slightly lacking in the looks department and whilst I am fully aware that there’s no point in polishing a turd, I feel that I should at least put a little effort into my appearance as it’s now effecting how I feel on an emotional scale about myself.

I’m going to begin right now by booking a hair appointment over the phone. In all honesty though, what exactly can the hair dresser do for me other than chop my mop and lift a little weight from my shoulders? It’s hardly as if she can offer me a new body two dress sizes smaller and erase the creases from my face, there’s no bugger able to perform that miracle trust me!

I’ve really ‘let it go’ or should I say ‘let it grow’ in terms of my hair as it is now a wild, thick, ginger mop which other than straightening and throwing back into a bobble I haven’t a clue what to do with.

The tip of the iceberg hit when my son J kindly told me the other day that I needed my hair cut as I was beginning to look a little like Mowi from Moana Yes that’s right my own son likened me to a long-haired, tattoo covered, fat bloke from a cartoon! I took the hint and pulled my hair back into a pony tail in a desperate attempt to tame the mane but have since felt shamed into making some serious changes.

The Long And Short Of It

I’m just not sure what to do for the best though, do I keep the length but change the style the colour even? Do I go for the full chop and get the old ‘hair today gone tomorrow’? I haven’t the foggiest what to do and having flicked through a few styles online I’m still completely clueless.

If only I were petite and pretty it’d be a million times easier. As that’s never going to happen I guess I’ll just have to make do with what I have.

I think we all get like this sometimes, especially after a bout of sickness. I’m a bit rubbish when it comes to my hair, I either have a short bob or let it grow and end up tying it back. I do prefer it shorter though, but that’s when I can get to the hairdressers…I go to the old ladies salon because I fit in there! Sometimes though a good pampering session is all that’s needed to get the beauty mojo back, so go on treat yourself to something and pamper yourself. I’m sure you’ll feel much better xx

Oh Rachel I just want to give you a big hug, you sounds so down on yourself. You look gorgeous in your pic. I know what it feels like to hate what you see in the mirror but you are so much more than your reflection, you’re clearly an adoring mum, not to mention talented blogger.
RE the hair, my thinking is always don’t do anything drastic when you aren’t in a positive frame of mind! (been there done that-cried a lot).
I think you need to get yourself a massage or spa morning instead and spoil yourself X

Oh your posts do make me laugh! Seriously though don’t be awful to yourself (easier said than done I’m my worst critic) maybe book a restyle hair appointment and see what the hairdresser comes up with. You might feel like a new you. Which reminds me I need to book myself an appointment as the roots are really beginning to show! #TuesdayTreasures

Just come out of the hair dressers now (cut and blow dry) and feel a whole lot better

I’d go for a big change if I were you! Go for a new colour or some highlights? If it doesn’t work out it will always grow out! I’m all for making drastic changes to give you a new lust for life! I’m sure you look wonderful though! Winter is a time when we can all let ourselves go a bit – I did think I need to make a few changes the other day when the sun came out! My legs are definitely not Summer ready! #TuesdayTreasures

I get this. I finally made a hair appointment for next week as four months since my last appointment the grey hairs are becoming a bit noticeable! Mowi though- can’t beat the stark brutal honesty of kids! #tuesdaytreasures

I think you are bloody lovely lady ! You are right though it’s usually us mums at the bottom of the pile when it comes to taking care of ourselves. I went without a cut for just over 2 years, never again ! I’ve seen your new do and it’s really nice x
