It’s a bit blinking nippy outdoors now that it’s November. As much as I bang on about how kids need to get outside, it’s currently a bit brass monkeys for bouncing on the trampoline or running around the garden.
The fact that our garden seems to turn into a quagmire doesn’t help matters during the Winter, we still try our hardest to ensure that the kids get some fresh air by wrapping them up warm and walking the dog, having a quick blast around the park or weather depending.
Winter Walks
As much as I promote the outdoors to my little ones, there is nothing quite like keeping warm and snuggly indoors playing traditional games together.
E loves to play games and has recently accepted that ‘taking turns’ is a general requirement for most games, her ability to focus and be patient seems to have developed massively since starting Preschool. E currently seems rather taken with Jenga, she will play it for a short time before using the blocks to build castles and most recently, The Ice Palace fully equipped with Anna and Elsa of course (Anna and Elsa were played by two identical wooden blocks).
She spent a fair amount of time playing with her masterpiece, giving the characters voices and role-playing. E is so imaginative, she has such a creative flare.
Building The Ice Palace.
Whether the kids are outdoors or indoors, I love to see them both entertained actually doing something other than zoning out on a tablet or gadget of some kind. I’m not saying that my kids don’t use tablets as they do. Hell, separating them from their technology is much alike to trying to scraping butter from bread… awkward!
The cold weather seems to make entertainment that bit harder, we often find ourselves switching the box on and curling up by the fire. I am going to start leaving a different board game out each day to encourage play and to keep things fresh. Now that the builders have just about finished I have my house back and we can start using and enjoying our personal space for play, learning and just being us this Autumn.
Thanks for reading and as always I look forward to catching up with your #LivingArrows either through your own posts or comments upon this post.
