I like to have a dabble at anything and everything when it comes to being creative but knitting and crotchet are two crafts which I simply cannot seem to fathom.
As a child I watched my Mum tick-tacking away with her knitting needles, she could throw a jumper together in the matter of a couple of days and despite being taught how to knit and pearl the best I ever made other than a pair of black baby booties which my Mum was mortified at was a dish cloth.
I have a bag of hand-me-down knitting needles and some balls of wool in the cupboard but they are very unlikely to be used by myself. Whilst I am able to cast-on and follow a very simple pattern there is absolutely no way that I could knit anything bigger than a baby bonnet as I lose patience easily and in frustration have considered jabbing something with my knitting needles rather than using them correctly.
I am a pretty crafty individual at times, that could be portrayed in many ways but I am referring to crafting as a hobby. I am not particularly talented in any specific craft other than making bunting of course which I now have a Facebook page and many orders for, whilst I am more than able to sew I’d love to master the art of knitting and crotchet.
You can’t be good at everything right? I can sew, I can make beautiful bunting, I can cross-stitch, I can bake, ice and decorate cakes. I can also draw, paint, create graphic designs and provide the children with some fairly nifty crafting activities.
Knitting and crotchet however I doubt I will ever master, they are too time consuming and fiddly for my liking. I simply don’t have the time or the inclination at this current point to get my needles out and to give it another go. I do however spend hours drooling over patterns which I wish I could create!
Deramores have some particularly pretty patterns which I would flipping love to bash out on the old knitting needles, perhaps with a little persuasion my Mum might come to the rescue.
Deramores provide patterns, materials, needles, hooks, accessories, gifts and more for knitting, crotchet and craft. I have added them as a favourite on my search bar and have spent a fair few hours over the weekend perusing their patterns and wondering whether it would be worth me giving the whole knitting and crotchet thing another go. What have I got to lose other than perhaps some perfectly good wool and my patience?
I have a whole host of crafting ideas which I am yet to put into practice, this includes three empty toilet rolls which are shortly to be transformed into Halloween decorations with the kids and two pumpkins which are sat awaiting carving. I think I’ll stick to the simple crafts for now and then once the building work is complete, the decoration done and the Christmas craziness has passed I may start afresh in Spring with a clear crafting mind.

ahhh see my mum always crocheted and I was eager to learn. I spent so long trying and joined a class but I just didn’t get it. finally I found a book that was recommended to me and it taught me everything I now know 🙂 its called the happy hooker. she explains it so well and finally I can crochet! if you do want to learn, id def rcmd that book! I want to try and make some hats this year for my niece and son 🙂
The happy hooker ? Lol great title!!!
I can’t knit or crochet either. I’d love to be able to claim I can, but I think I would struggle to find the time to master this. Lovely buntings by the way!

thanks xxx
I cannot knit a single stitch, I remember my Nan trying to teach me as a child but I quickly lost patience. I’m terrible at sewing too, truth be told. But one craft I’ve recently gotten into is card making and I LOVE it. Inspired by lots of very talented card crafters on You Tube I’ve decided that all my Christmas cards will be handmade this year and I’ve made a good start. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pretty awful but I’m improving and I really enjoy the creativity of it. Getting crafty is good for the soul in my book 🙂 #tuesdaytreasures
I’d love to be able to do card making!
I’m exactly the same (apart from the baking which I’m useless at) I remember my nan trying over and over to teach me to no avail those needles just would not conform. I’m happy to stick to glue sticks and glitter with the kids and of course writing as my creativity outlets. I didn’t know you made bunting hopping across now to have a nosy. #TuesdayTreasures
I do indeed, I began making bunting after getting my first ever sewing machine the other year.
I love getting crafty, my grandma taught me to knit as a child and like you I can do basic things, I tried crochet recently and failed. I would love to be able to knit toys for the kids like play food #tuesdaytreasures
me too, I must give it a go but I know I’m useless lol!
I’m not very crafty at all, I’d love to be though. But the most I do is toddler crafts haha!! #tuesdaytreasures
I really can’t do it! I’m not sure why – I can turn my hand to most things crafty but I think knitting skipped a generation. My Mum is a total whizz! #tuesdaytreasures
You know you sound like me. #TuesdayTreasures
My friend taught me to crochet a couple of years ago, but I’m hopeless because I keep leaving it for months, then when I pick it up it’s like I’m a beginner all over again! I do like it though, I love to create things. My greater love is fabric rather than yarn, but since setting up the sewing machine on my dining table every time is too much hassle (and I have to get Hubby’s help as it’s too heavy!), at least crochet is something you can do in front of TV on a night. So it might be worth persevering Rachel! #TuesdayTreasures
Thanks Cal I need to keep on going
